"Midnight Muse..." is a collection of observations, thoughts, and memories that occurred to him during his graveyard shifts at the c-store where he used to work. These poems are a picture study of his hometown of Morgantown, WV and his perceptions of it. This is how the author knows his home. He invites you to know it as well.

aimless midnight gusts
dart across lonely paved lanes
while streetlights hum
with electric tang

strolling lovers bathe and lull
in the tart glow
as they scuff sandaled feet
along littered avenues

at some point, amidst
the phosphorescent buzzing
in the air, a low chuckle
is muffled in the darkness
"...perhaps the moon and wind are tonight's bride and groom..."

I find your observations after the midnight hour fascinating, I just ordered you book and am looking forward to reading it. Earlier in my job, I too worked the midnight shift as a 911 operater, I wrote my thoughts down in the form of Haiku...

I remember working the graveyard shift at the local c-store...I used to love those nights where a snowstorm blew outside, or a thunderstorm lit up the night sky, while most were home sleeping, I was reveling in the sounds and sights of Nature...not to mention those folks that lived for the night and wandered the streets outside my little store...thanks for the memories, MP...Ed
