Excerpt
Kareena Ellis slowed for the traffic lights. She didn’t need this. Time was of the essence.
She looked about. Everything seemed fine, calm.
She tapped her fingers against the steering wheel. She would be okay, no need to panic, no reason to worry.
A shadow came across her face, and Kareena looked up.
He was big, a giant compared to her tiny size, his beard roughened face making him look ferocious.
He stood at the front of the car staring at her, his eyes challenged her.
Kareena shuddered. They’d warned her and she didn’t listen. After all, what threat was she to anyone?
His arms came down, the windscreen smashed into millions of tiny pieces. The sledgehammer landed on the steering wheel, barely missing her.
Kareena screamed, cringed back against her seat. Her heart pounded -- it was loud, so loud -- she couldn’t hear herself think.
Tiny rivulets of blood trickled down Kareena’s arms, her hands, and probably everywhere else, she decided.
Kareena sat frozen to the seat. Her whole body was shaking.
Calm down, she told herself. Think -- and don’t panic.
There was only one option. And that was to run.
