Just as there are physical laws that govern the universe--such as the law of gravity--there are spiritual laws that govern marriage.  Violating these laws results in disaster, just as violating the law of gravity results in disaster.  Nor is there room to plead ignorance.  If you jump off a tall building, you will fall to the ground whether or not you know about the law of gravity.  The same holds true in marriage.  If you violate the laws of marriage, you'll get hurt and your marriage will suffer, whether you know those laws or not.
