All Bagged Up
This is the author's story of a 10 year battle against the dibilitating disease, Ulcerative Colitis and subsequent surgery to have an ileostomy. Psychological battles have to be faced as he tries to survive day to day life knowing he will have to have a stoma for life. His Christian faith is the mainstay of this battle and the author gives many tips and advice on how a person can live, quite comfortably in this situation. The story is both inspirational and factual and discusses medications, side effects and the depression and fear that can so easily take hold. This is a must read for anyone with a bowel condition including UC or Crohn's Disese.

About this book - All Bagged Up, 11 Feb 2009
By Editor Viv (UK) - See all my reviews

Ulcerative Colitis and Crohn's Disease are serious bowel conditions that affect many people of all ages throughout the world today.
This is one man's account of suffering the debilitating UC for 10 years before undergoing stoma surgery for a permanent ileostomy.
Pain, humiliation, loss of dignity and anger were all part of the author's life prior to being told he would need surgery for a colostomy. Hardly had this begun to sink in before, the operation was changed to a permanent ileostomy leading to further psychological issues.

This is an honest account of how Grahame Howard survived the 10 years of UC and coped with the knowledge that stoma surgery was inevitable. Grahame's Christian faith was the mainstay in his survival and played a big part in his recovery, especially receiving a healing miracle while in hospital.

The book is autobiographical in style but also gives the reader tips on what to expect prior to surgery and how to live with a stoma and the many psychological battles attached to this.

Grahame says "Life is never easy with bowel conditions and when surgery has to take place in order to survive, it can promote anxiety and frustration as answers are difficult to find."

This book is a `Must Read' for people associated with a stoma but will also encourage people who are undergoing personal life issues. There is a better life out there. It's a matter of finding it.

(REAL NAME)

This sensitively written book is for all people living with a serious bowel condition, their carers and those who want to understand the emotions and inner struggles involved in working through life changing problems. It is a very honest and brave account from the authors personal experiences with Ulcerative Colitis over a ten year period, ending in his case with stoma surgery. Grahame found very little written on the subject when he needed help most and therefore explains in detail how he and his wife coped with this debilitating illness; the surgery he had to undergo which led to his ileostomy and the struggles he had psychologically before, during and after it. His Christian faith shines through each chapter and he explains how he fought his way back and found a different way of life to live. This book is a refreshing and helpfull account with practical guidance and useful contacts. A 'must' for those seeking more information, and those struggling to find a better life out there. As a carer I can really recommend it.
