Amazon Barnes & Noble.com Publish America The Writing Forum - A Showcase of Poetry and Short Stories for All Writers
"Reach for the Moon", written under my maiden name, Marcia Townsend, is a hard cover book of 67 poems and 3 short stories with a special introduction by Karen Vanderlaan, author of "Show and Tell" and "Anna and Chen". The short stories in the book (with location and name changes) are excerpts taken from a novel in progress. I hope you enjoy reading the book as much as I did writing it.
Excerpt
The poems and short stories in this book are mostly chronicles of my life in no specific order but, some are inspired solely by this writer's imagination. I leave it to my readers to decide which is which.
When my son was facing a difficult business decision he asked me for advice. The only advice I gave him was, "Reach for the moon my son; the least you'll come up with is a handful of stars." Hence, at his suggestion, the title of this book.
Life can be joyful and it can also be heart breaking. It's not for the timid or the weak. It's an ongoing learning experience and sometimes the lessons are tough. I've made friends with life and with love, both of which are always challenging and changing. My battles have been many, the victories imprinted themselves on my soul. I consider myself to be a survivor and have always welcomed a challenge, seeing them as opportunities for growth, and... I'm always eager for the new.

After having had the privilege of reading your work for a number of years, I knew this collection could be nothing less than spectacular. Your poems are filled with your own journeys and that of your vivid imagination. Your words are both simple and complex as we need them to be. They allow us our own interpretations and to be touched. What greater gift can a writer give her readers!

A single poem or story by Marcia Miller-Twiford can take a reader into depths of literary grace, beauty, and wisdom that few ever expect to encounter simply by giving their attention to words. With that in mind, it takes little to imagine how thrilling one may find it to sit down with this aptly titled volume, REACH FOR THE MOON, and blissfully enjoy one page after another, not only achieving that poetic flight to the moon, but traveling far beyond into glittering galaxies of the author's brilliant mind, heart, and soul.
