This book is for anyone that is or may know a drug addict.Journey with me as I tell you my story of addiction, and how to free yourself from it. My name is Daniel Keith, I injured my back in 1991. I've had 3 major back surgeries, 2 neck surgeries, and a quadruple bypass. The sciatic nerve is entangled in scar tissue, and I have constant pain running down my left leg to my foot. Although the pain is severe, it is more important to me to live my life without pain medications and muscle relaxers. So then begins the journey of going from taking a total of 42 pills per day, to writing this book to help others cope with pain and being drug free, as I am now.

Excerpt

I was 35 years old when I was injured. At that time I had been working for a major aircraft company for almost 18 years. I never imagined that I would become disabled. After 3 lower back surgeries and 2 neck surgeries I was totally dependant on pain medications and other pills. I didn't know east from west. After a decade and a half later, I was taking 30 pain pills and 12 sleeping pills every day, and still the pain was there and hardly any sleep. I was so depressed and unable to do any physical labor, and to messed up to do any mental work. I had gone through many withdrawals. It has been shear torture. Over the years I have been through 6 rehabs, but to no avail. They just didn't have anything to help people trying to get off of prescription pain pills. More times than not I would end up in an ambulance on my way to the emergency room. My blood pressure would get so high I often fainted. It's almost impossible when you're in that much pain coupled with the fact that they had nothing for the cravings of the drugs themselves. Until now, this new drug, Suboxone became available, in which I was now able to stop taking the pain medications at home, with the use of this new medicine. Although I am in severe pain, in my opinion it is worth the trade off to be of sound mind. This journal will walk you through my journey of the imprisoned mind.

YOUR BOOK IS A WONDERFUL TESTIMONY OF WHAT THE POWER OF GOD CAN DO IF WE SURRENDER OUR WILL AND ALLOW HIM TO DELIVER US FROM THE BONDAGE OF ADDICTION. MIND OVER MATTER, IS THE PRINCIPLE FOR '...WITH GOD WE CAN DO ALL THINGS...' IT SEEMS LIKE AN INSPIRING AND TIMELY WORK. THANKS SO MUCH FOR SHARING, LOVE AND BLESSINGS, JOYCE * HIS INSPIRATIONS

Oh Daniel, I can't even begin to express how I felt when I read your book. We live so far away from each other, however I knew that you had suffered for years & years, I didn't see you very often. But I can remember talking to you on the phone sometimes, your mind in a complete fog... it was like talking to a total stranger. Your book made me cry because I love you so much, and it made me so sad to see how much suffering you have endured for such a long time. Your brother and I are so happy that you have finally found the right treatment, not only restore your body but also your mind. It is so wonderful to have YOU back. I want to encourage you to please keep writing. I've known you and your family for 40 years now, and I know what horror and hell your childhood was. If you decide to write again, telling your story, I know that you will help so many others the same way you've helped people by sharing your story about your addiction to pain medications. God bless you, Daniel. You inspire me and I know that your book(s) will inspire and lift up others. I love you...

Daniel,

This is a powerful testament to your strength and determination to free yourself from prescribed medication.I applaud this work.

Many parts touched me deeply. For example, when you had to leave your oldest son in California to graduate from high school without you and the rest of the family,I can imagine how hard that was for all of you.

It is my hope that you will continue to improve.

I pray that you are still fighting the good fight, and that the medication you mentioned in the book is still working for you.
Continued success.

I would like to say thank you to the author. I had surgery on my right knee, in the summer of 2003. My knee has healed fine, although I have found that I am addicted to pain medications. I have tried so many times to quit taking them, and have also been through 2 rehab programs, and still could not stop. I was looking on the internet to see if there was anything that could help, because I had heard of a new medication, but knew nothing about it. I came across this book, "The Imprisoned Mind". After reading this book I felt as though the author and myself had been living the same life. It is amazing to me how this man has come so far. I have since found a dr. in my area, and am now on the Suboxone program. What a great feeling to have my life back as I once knew it. Once again, I would like to thank you for sharing your story. It has truely been a blessing to me.
