Meditation- The Path To Your Soul."
When we hear the word “meditate,” we visualize many perceptions of what meditation is. For many, meditation symbolizes the silence of the mind. For others, meditation represents the act of prayer. Still others perceive meditation to be an act that can only be performed by a chosen few. The way in which meditation is observed also holds great diversity. Many individuals prefer to meditate in holy places such as churches, synagogues or sacred sanctuaries.
Certain individuals believe that meditation can only be performed in complete solitude, while others prefer to meditate outdoors amidst nature and beauty. There are many popular tools that are believed to enhance the act of meditation: scented candles, crystals, mystical music, and water fountains, just to name a few. Whatever way you prefer to meditate, and whichever tools you feel will aid you in practicing meditation, you will discover that meditation illuminates the passage to your soul.
What is Meditation?
We have already established that the act of meditation symbolizes many interpretations. Yet, the act of meditation that leads to the path of the soul is unique and undeniably grand. When you succeed in mediating within the passage of the soul canal, there will be no doubt in your mind that you have performed the act of meditation with your heart and with your soul. Thus, the question is, what exactly is meditation?
Mediation is the passage that unveils your true nature. In order to do this you must first be willing to acknowledge that within the depths of your physical being there is a perfect and creative living soul. Once you have graciously and lovingly accepted your true identity, you can travel through the passage of meditation and unveil your magnificent radiance.
In order to simplify the definition of meditation, we will entertain an analogy with the mechanics of a television. The exterior of a television can be described as a big box with a screen. In addition to the box and screen, a television displays a number of buttons that are rarely used. Instead, most televisions are controlled by a remote control. The intellect and “life” of a television exists within the box that adorns the “television.” Inside the box, there are a number of tubes and/or chips that generate power. The tubes/chips inside the box act as sensors that pick up invisible waves and transmit ions that travel through the air via electrical currents.
Thus, in order to get reception, a television must detect waves and electrical current. Now, in order to get a great reception, a television must be connected to a cable box or satellite dish. Lacking a connection to a cable box will cause the television to deliver poor reception.
Finally, once a television is connected to a “receptor,” it is capable of receiving a great variety of channels. At times, we find a channel that provides great programming. Other times, we simply become bored with the same old shows and opt to play with the remote control for hours. . . flicking and changing the channels, wondering if we will find something that will gain our attention.
Now that I have just given you a crash course on the components of a television, let us return our attention to the act of meditation. Meditation, as we have already learned, is the passage that leads us to our soul. In order to pave a path that will lead us to ourselves, we must open and maintain a proper connection to the sensors that lead us to our soul. Much like the exterior box of a “television” that adorns the hidden “life” within it, our physical bodies disguise the hidden soul that lives within us. And just as a television is equipped with tubes/chips that act as sensors which detect waves and electrical current, our physical bodies are equipped with feelings; our tubes and chips within our “television,” our bodies.
The waves and electrical current that feed the sensors within a television can be compared to the desire that lives within our soul which calls out to us to remember who we are. Although we are sometimes unconscious of these desires and yearnings, we experience them every single moment of our lives. We can recognize and answer the pleading desire that calls out within our soul if we would simply choose to connect our “television” to an antenna or cable box, “our hearts,” in order to receive great reception.
As we have already established, a television is capable of receiving dozens of channels, but at times, the receptions of these channels are unclear and fuzzy. In order to obtain great reception, a cable of antenna connection is needed. Similarly, in order for us to open the passage that leads our soul, we must open our hearts. When we open our hearts and acknowledge that there is a living soul within our television, we open a passage for a clear and coherent reception.
When we adorn our physical bodies with the essence of a cable box, the essence of love that is within our hearts, we allow our sensors, our feelings, to pave a passage to a clear reception with our true entity, our souls. Yet, at times, we become restless with the programming on our televisions and begin to flick and change channels. Your remote control becomes an idle toy that you play with and you simply exhaust precious time with.
Now, if you were to entertain for a moment that you are a television set, you would immediately realize that potential of your being. Yes. You are a television set. You are a perfect soul adorned with the appearance of a physical body, a television box. You have chips and/or tubes within your box, that detect waves and electrical currents within the air; your emotions and feelings are your body’s sensors which constantly call out to you to remember who you are. The channels within you are plentiful. They are represented in the many dramas and experiences you have created within your life’s script.
Yet, hidden within your television set, there is a unique and special channel. It is the channel that leads to your soul. You have tried unsuccessfully to receive quality reception, but continue to receive blurry and incoherent programming; these are the dramas of your life. You wish you could only obtain great reception but you have failed to connect your television to a cable box. You have failed to connect yourself to your heart. You have in essence failed to connect yourself to your true self: the purity of radiance that illuminates from your heart, the essence of love.
You have been too distracted by the endless flicking and changing that your toy provides. Your toy, your remote control, is the creative script of life that you have set in motion within your television set. Yes. You have chosen to continue flickering the channels and have chosen to even watch re-runs. . . the continuing drama that you continually chose to create in your life. You have chosen to ignore the hidden channel that lives within your television set that constantly calls out to you in hopes that you choose to view it. Are you ready then, to tune in to the right channel? Are you tired of watching re-runs? Are you tired of poor reception? Are you willing to connect your television to your cable box, or are you willing to continue receiving poor reception?
Obviously, we are not a television set. Yet, incorporating the fundamentals that allow a television set to operate efficiently, we can begin to see the importance of obtaining the proper reception in order to benefit from the process of meditation. Meditation, as mentioned earlier, is a passage to our soul. The act of meditating allows us to travel through the passage that reveals our essence.
In order to reach a meditative state, we must tune in to the channel that exists within us; the channel of the soul. In addition, we must block out the interference of other channels that reside within our script of life.
The act of meditation may be accomplished in any place, at any time. The process of meditation can be performed in solitude or in public. In order to enhance your meditative state, you may choose to incorporate any technique that offers you relaxation and focus, although none is necessary. The act of meditation may be referred to as prayer, a prayer of thanks for being able to unveil your true identity; it may be referred to as an act of silence, for when you embark on the passage to the soul, you arrive there to listen. And, the act of meditating is available to all who desire to seek it, for meditation is an act of holiness and divinity.
Meditation, then, is the path that leads the way to spiritual wholeness
