THE OUTPOST - Personnal at an isolated Air Force base set atop the frozen tundra of Alaska greet an unexpected guest, one with a merciless mission all it's own....

NEW YEAR'S DESOLATION - A troubled artist finds that some New Year's resolutions are better left unfulfilled...

During a fierce late-night snowstorm at an isolated Air Force base in Alaska, a staff sergeant and airman on guard duty pass the time by reading aloud horror stories, only to find they are in one. These stories make up Bone Chills, an imaginative, nicely written book. Pierced concerns a music manager who seeks revenge on a band that sought to "dismiss" him; Gunman's Hand is a nice blending of the Western and horror genres in which a notorious outlaw gets his due; Black Monday, reminscent of Richard Matheson's Madhouse, is about a man who wakes up one morning and every possible thing goes wrong for him; Blue Chip regards a college basketball scout who picks the wrong kid to recruit. My favorite is The Outpost, about an army outpost that one day comes under attack by a squadron that had disappeared mysteriously decades ealier. This story struck me with a feeling of horror and dread I haven't felt since watching Romero's Dawn of the Dead for the first time. Vinson is a good writer, who suprisingly has not been picked up by a publisher yet (this is a POD book; it shows in that it could use a good copy edit). Vinson knows how to put words on the page, and he has one of the most original minds I have encountered in a long while. He writes stories about real characters who find themselves in frightening situations. Read him now; some of his PODs might become collector's editions one day.

Oooh, creepy...

If there is one thing I’ve learned from reading Terry Vinson’s works, it is that no can write the horror short story any better. Like his previous works, this is a collection of stories tied together with a running theme, which it self turns into a macabre nightmare.
Some of my favorites: “Pierced”, which will make you have nightmares about snakes; “Black Monday” which most of us can relate to when we have a bad day, but sheesh... how bad can it get? “Outpost” was also top notch, and certainly chills your bones. Once again, Terry Vinson has proven that he’s a terrific (as in terrifying and good!) writer. Very recommended.

I liked this book. I read the entire thing in two days, and Black Monday and The Outpost are two of my favorite stories out there but it is hard to pick just two. I read ZBA before I knew of this book, so I have to say Terry is the closest tie there is to Robert Bloch. There are parts in there I was so grossed out that I couldn't stop laughing but when I read "The Outpost" was bugging because I have been at a place where my imagination got away from me when I was standing watch. I could relate to Black Monday because I had an ingrown toenail from hell, and if one thought Terry doesn't swear in his work, he makes Stephen King look like Walt Disney. The wrap around story is something one hasn't seen in a book before and it brings everything all together. Very morbid work. The kind of book that would make H.P. Lovecraft and George Romero proud, this is the book that would be done if they colaborated on a few stories. The Outpost would became the end result. Terry comes in with the horror like a mechanized panzer assault that never lets up -- horror that sets out to do one thing, kick ass. This is what horror should be, scary as all hell and awakening the Shades of Hades. There is a new horror bad ass, and his name is Terry Vinson.
