In this pulsating, vibrant and authentic novel, Neo Franco Cantú, a new emerging writer, yarns a fable of a nine-year-old boy experiencing life during the Mexican Revolution of 1910. This epic story is filled with breathtaking scenes, heartbreaking and hilarious dramas as seen through the eyes of the protagonist who defies destiny while embracing hope. Antonio Rodríguez grew up in a time in Mexican history when childhood was a luxury that could be enjoyed only briefly. He became a soldier in the revolution at the age of ten, compelling him into adulthood very quickly. He served under a Colonel Vidal Zúñiga eleven years of his life—to the end of the revolution. Antonio is a brave and alluring character whose experiences unfold through the pages by his daring and amusing acts. Rodrigo, a revolutionary magical brujo, befriended Antonio and helped him survive the civil war.

When I began to read ADF, I found myself not wanting to stop. It had been quite awhile since I picked up a book and felt this way. Antonio is quite a character. He is so funny and brave. His acts are very well-written and detailed enough to understand why Antonio is who he is. I found myself laughing and wanting to travel to Antonio's time. Highly recommended! |

Excellent Reading Entertainment, September 24, 2004
Reviewer: Nieves Olvera (Houston, TX) - See all my reviews
I must admit I am not an avid reader of novels and it has been some years since I read a novel but after reading A Destiny Foretold I realized how sad it must be for those who, like me, have been depriving themselves all these years of good reading by focusing solely on audio and visual media.
I started reading this book more out of curosity and soon became totally engrossed in the story when the author started creating vivid mental images of the events with every sentence I read. I found myself anxiously awaiting the next free hour I could find to get back to reading the next chapter. The last 100+ pages were the hardest to resist - so much so that I gave up all free time to find out what Antonio was going to encounter in the next chapter and where this story was going to end. I was not the least bit disappointed and would certainly read this author's next book. I just hope he does not wait another 60 years to publish his next one.
