The neighbor, now scowling, said, "My name is Sam Rayburg. I live two doors down. I represent the neighborhood, and I insist on knowing your intentions."
Kate shrugged, with a twinkle in her eye. "Well, the sign says Crisis Pregnancy Center, so I'm just going to take a wild guess here, and say that there will probably be some pregnant ladies stopping by from time to time."
Mr. Rayburg frowned and said testily, "You can't do that. This is a residential area, zoned specifically for single-family homes. No commercial property is allowed on the block. Lady, you aren't even allowed to sell Tupperware without the block commissioner's written consent."
Kate smiled sweetly. "Well, that shouldn't be a problem, since I have no intention of selling Tupperware. Besides, this is a non-profit organization. Now if you'll excuse me, I have places to go and things to do."
"But...but," Sam Rayburg stammered.
She slammed the door in his face. Turning to her niece, Kate smiled. "Okay, now all I gotta do is find some pregnant ladies who'd like to visit me."

Barbara Brooks reviews Coming Home to Mercy Street
"From the first page this novel is off and runing. If I was in a theater, I'd forget to eat my popcorn. Renn is a great character. She grabbed my interest immediately. I totally loved Coming Home to Mercy Street."
