As a followup to Von Kanel's first book, "Built by the Owner's Design" (The Positive Approach To Building Your Church God's Way), Building Sunday School by the Owner's Design gives practical tools to growth for any size Sunday School. Von Kanel asserts, "That if you use 72 of the 100 simultaneously as possible, growth will occur".
In addition, the book offers many extra tools listed as "Tool Time" and "Tool Resources" throughout the book.
Von Kanel says, "I sought to write a very practical resource that would give usuable tools to impact Sunday Schools across the country."
LEARN MORE ABOUT GROWING YOUR CHURCH THAN I DID IN 33 YEARS OF MINISTRY. I loved those years. But I love now more. I now know what makes churches grow. I’ve spent the years researching to find out how. I’ve spent the time in trial and error to eliminate what doesn’t. You don’t have to lose precious years in your search. To grow your church, read my incisive book, Built by the Owner’s Design (The Positive Approach to Building your Church God’s Way). 1. God (Free!) - Our Most Powerful Resource
Obvious? Not Exactly. Most ongregations would be offended if God was left out of the picture but yet, most implement Sunday school as if He didn’t exist. The Creator of the universe is at our disposal for guidance, direction, and empowering. If He can speak the world into existence, surely he can fill teaching positions, motivate workers, enable outreach, and multiply attendance in Sunday school. We have not because we ask not.
The God who inspired writers to pen the words, “Thy Word is sharper than any two-edged sword” and “Study to shew thyself approved under God” will also enable the one ministry designed to teach His Word to flourish. But He won’t force His way in to our well-laid plans. He will lead and guide when asked.
Consider answering the following:
* Where does God fit into our plans for Sunday school?
* How does our prayer life reflect God’s involvement?
* When was the last time we asked God to empower all that we do in Sunday school?
2. You (Free!)
No one understands Sunday school like you. Your energy, personality, gifts, and desire to make Sunday school prosper is unsurpassed. You wouldn’t be reading this book if that weren’t so.
One of the main reasons for Sunday schools’ decline across our nation is because leaders have quit leading. Now it’s time for them to step up -- reclaim their role, and never look back. Marshall their skills for the task. Promote Bible study like only they can. Let the congregation see their passion for Bible study through the Sunday school.
Always remember: If you won’t carry the Sunday school banner, who will? And even if someone else is more available, they probably lack the skill, passion, resolve, and the respect of the congregation to bring out the best in Sunday school.
