Fleeing the Nomadin, Ilien seeks aid from the last person he ever thought would give it. For his father, Gallund, is held prisoner by an enemy immune to Nomadin magic, an enemy who would use him to release an unthinkable evil upon the world. To rescue him, Ilien must forsake all he knows to be true. He must learn a forbidden magic. He must discover who he truly is or become . . . NiDemon.

The old man ran on, leaping over rooty obstacles and stones with a speed that belied his age. Tripping now would mean certain death, or worse. His soiled gray cloak trailed behind him as he raced through the dense forest maze. His breath came in ragged gasps. A branch snagged the flailing garment and tore it from his body. He sped on without looking back. Looking back would be a dire mistake. Looking back would only confirm his fears. And yes, even he was afraid.
His legs ached and his chest pounded. How long had he been running? He had escaped at sunrise. Surely it was nearing sunset by now. At the outset, he had been able to use his powers, first to breach the wall, then to conceal his passage, but it was tiring to do so and keep the pace he had set for himself. He grew weary fast. He could not risk standing his ground. There were too many hunting him, and they had a Nephalim with them, or more rightly the Nephalim had company. Defending against twenty men was one thing—defending against twenty men and a demon of the spirit world was another. In his present condition, the Nephalim would easily over-power him. Better to escape. He knew where to go. It wasn't far now. He knew because he had the map, the map his pursuers so desperately wanted. It was the map they were after. He was just its legs, and to cut him down was their only way to recapture it.
He ran on, concentrating only upon shoving one foot in front of the other. It was close. He could feel its tug within him, pulling him along, drawing him eagerly forward, filling him with renewed vigor. The Crossing was near! Soon he would be safe, the map as well, and all the wondrous worlds it touched! With that thought, he redoubled his speed, but his foot caught a root. He faltered, righted himself, staggered forward.
Even before he struck the ground, he knew that he was doomed. And so too the world entire.

Book Pleasures - Review by John Walsh
In NiDemon, Shawn P. Cormier’s sequel to his lively and enjoyable young adult fantasy Normadin, hero and heroine Ilien and Windy continue their quest to save their world from evil while also trying to determine their own provenance and destiny. Is Ilien the chosen one? Is Windy the chosen one? Could either be the great god reborn? Well, nothing is quite what it seems for the two children, since enormous, ferocious monsters turn out to be friends while trusted supporters turn sulky and refuse to help. Above all, they must try to work out the nature of Bulcrist, who claims to be a NiDemon and, therefore, an enemy of the Nomadin and indeed of all things good. Then again, Nomadin are distrusted and no humans would wish to be associated with them so who is to say who is what and why. The swan, at least, trusts Bulcrist enough to take Ilien and Windy there and she has been their supporter to date.

This second instalment of these adventures continues the tone of the first, although it has a rather smoother flow and one or two more unexpected and interesting interludes. The author is clearly developing his skills as he continues, which is an encouraging sign. I would prefer the next episode of these adventures to be the last, since in the first place too many authors of fantasy literature are unable to complete a proper plot within a single book or, at most, a book and its sequel and, secondly and perhaps more importantly, he is likely to find that the structural limitations of the first book will be increasingly difficult constraints with which to work in the future. Further, ending the series soon would relieve the transition problems from one book to the next – there is very little recap at the beginning of NiDemon and it took me a while to pick up the pace once more. Readers who have not read the first book would probably find it difficult to become engaged with the characters or plot of the second, which would be a pity.

For all of that, this is still an enjoyable page-turning read and many people would find themselves looking forward eagerly to finding out how the adventure ends.

Review by Robert E. Vardeman - author of The Cenotaph Road Series
In NiDemon, the action-packed sequel to Nomadin, Shawn Cormier delivers convincing, colorful characters and an inventive fantasy world chocked full of mystery and danger sure to please old fans and win a legion of new ones. This is a book you shouldn't miss!

LIU Magazine
In Shawn P Cormier's sequel to Nomadin, the shadow of gloom and doom remains over the people of Nadae. In NiDemon, the hero, young Ilien, must flee the Nomadin and rescue his father, Gallund, from an enemy that is the personification of evil. Ilien's only hope is to look within and discover his true self, so that he can face the challenge of learning a forbidden magic, allowing him to continue on his quest to save his father and his people. This highly imaginative, colorful novel follows Ilien on his journey through the land of the dead and beyond. NiDemon features an intricately crafted world that invites readers to delve into magic, adventure and fantasy. The themes of good versus evil surface throughout the whimsical, yet dark tale, capturing the imagination of adults and children alike.

Title: Nidemon
Entertaining Read …….. Recommended …. 4 stars

Treachery, runes, life, death, more than one sword and a prophesy fulfilled will be revealed before the tale is finished. The tale ends with farewells, hope and the beginning of a journey.

Once again writer Cormier captures the essential quality of the genre to produce one more zestful, fast paced text.
