Fiction

Forced to destroy her life's work to prevent its unethical use, Dr. Kerra Telsier steals a starship and hires grounded smuggler Aden Locke to fly it -- and her -- safely offworld. But "safely" turns out to be a relative term....

Barnes & Noble.com

Someone got Aden grounded on purpose. Someone who's not too happy about Kerra's role in his escape.

Seven years ago, driven mad by exposure to a powerful alien pheromone, Gandes brutally attacked a friend of Aden's and left her for dead. In revenge, Aden betrayed Gandes to the authorities. Now Gandes is back, and he's determined to destroy Aden and everyone close to him. Including the naive young scientist who was foolish enough to interfere in Gandes' plans.

Aden's determined to protect Kerra. But it isn't Aden's protection Kerra wants...

Excerpt

"Aden, you're squeezing my hand so hard I may never get the circulation back. What are you afraid of?"

"You'll find out," Aden predicted grimly. "This is one of the easiest places in the sector for an honest smuggler to find work --"

"Honest smuggler? Isn't that a bit of a contradiction?"

Aden ignored the interruption. "The Kethrians import and export everything through offworld channels. Including a thriving trade in non-Kethrian men."

"You mean, if you get on my nerves, I can sell you?" Kerra could learn to like this place.

Professional Reviews

Writer's Club Romance Group on AOL
INTO THE FIRE takes romance on a planet-hopping spree. The bond between Kerra and Aden is well-developed, even though they go through predictable phases of should I/shouldn't I as they come to terms with their love for each other. The secondary characters add some interesting color to the already fantastical landscape of the setting ... this is an entertaining romance ebook. -- Chris Carsten

Romance Reviews Today
Futuristic romances work best when they are filled with adventure and excitement, and INTO THE FIRE is a perfect example of one that really works. The pace of this absorbing tale is just right to keep up the interest level, but not to fat to lose the interesting detail Ms. McPhee has included of other worlds and other species. And, however engrossing the settings, this story never ceases to be a wonderfully romantic love story between two well-developed and likeable characters. The secondary characters are also finely woven into the story -- especially Emarr Dengas, who, despite his peculiar skin tone, is interesting enough to warrant being the main protagonist in a future novel. For a most enjoyable and satisfying romance that is out of this world, I heartily rocommend INTO THE FIRE -- Astrid Kinn

The Belles and Beaux of Romance
INTO THE FIRE is one heck of a thriller sci-fi story that never lets you go for a minute. Norma McPhee is a fabulous storyteller who has created some marvelous characters in a super duper plot that is quite intriguing, and spellbinding. In fact, I can't wait to see what she is going to come up with next! There's a bevy of compelling characters that will make excellent heroes and heroines for future books. I'd sure like to see the "green man" get a book of his own. --Suzanne Coleburn
