Butterflies in the winter sun
A thousand miniature butterflies in the winter sun
outside my window
stops me in my tracks
I put everything aside and retreat to an island paradise
basking in the sun
which is so bright I have to shield my eyes
a sharp beam of light shining into my brain
concentrating my thoughts
so that maybe I will be able to finish at least one of my projects
just maybe, I’ll see something, anything through
rather than be one of those bright butterflies
in the winter sun
unless I fall asleep first
with the heat of the sun pressing on my ear and on my cheek
on some tropical beach
with the winter butterflies fluttering all around me
