REVIEW BY RA. JANAKIRAMAN.

True to the title Mystic Melody the poems in the collection are Poetic expression of mystic experience. Seeing God in Nature is a mystic experience. It is a kind of worship of God that stands different from others in one respect. It doesn't specify any particular idol or person for Worship.

Mr. Osho an inspired mystic poet fitting begins this work

with the poem MY MOTHER.

"Lo! Thy grace face

Makes me meek!

Oh thee make me to seek

Thine altar of divine face ….

….Thou mother of spring…

Soft, mellow, mirth…I sing…

Thy song of unknown….Oh angel…."

In this first poem itself very gracefully the poet tells the greatness of the

Divine face he seeks and that his song is the song of the known.

He has worded the poem so carefully that the divine face remains

totally unknown. The mother he is referring to could be Mother

Nature or Mother Mary or Mother Kali. It could be interpreted

In any way one likes. It is also a good beginning seeking the unknown's

blessings.

"I sing as a lone bird….

Who carry thy chasm…thou creator of bard." Very tactfully he says,

Oh creator of poets I am singing as a lone bird, please take care of me,

with out actually saying it.

With such a good start he keeps on singing the melodies

of mysticism all the way.

The poet a good singer of mystic melody finds another

singer who sings cradle songs to him in SONG TO SPRING. His

description of this singer is enchantingly poetical.

"Cuckoo inebriates and celebrates to sing,

Hail and herald the glad divine spring;…

………….

E'er Cuckoo gives music to the myriad stars!

E'er Cuckoo sings, with invisible flute e'er plays…..

Cuckoo sings for peace, love adores the divine!

And will fill my hallow mellow heart with devotion's strain;

Cuckoo in glee, flee with pure music, flies above the bliss billows,

And sings the cradle songs for me, in Bliss my soul wallows."

Though cuckoo's cradle songs make the soul to wallow

In peace the poet prefers silence in BLISS BLOOM. This is in

Keeping with many saintly declarations that bliss blooms in silence.

"Do not spend your energy in talking but meditate in silence and

become a dynamo of spirituality, "says Swamy Vivekananda.

Mr. Osho says "Bliss Bloom in silence!

Bliss Bloom in silence!

O Lord Thine eternal ford,

Flows in me as a RIVER…"

Perhaps to emphasize the important of silence he has one

Full poem titled DEEP SILENCE in this collection

Deep, Deep Devotion delves thy bliss

Deep, Deep thy profound wisdom aye abyss

Deep, Deep heart pants become hallow!

Deep, Deep for silence soul we ought

Deep, Deep niche in thy cosy shell

Deep, Deep for nectar's grace bees dwell..!"

Poems such as CHILD LABOUR, CITIZEN, DOWRY etc;

Peep through the collection telling about the poet's social concern. But

predominantly Mr. Osho's voice is that of spiritualism.

Today no subject is more confused than spiritualism. It will

be so because Krishna says in GEETHA that one in thousands really

wish to know me and try to know me and out of that a rare one actually

finds me. Therefore the multiplicity of varying spiritual thoughts is due

to the extreme complexity of the subject matter. There are two schools

of thoughts that are diametrically opposite to each other in their

approaches. One claims that God has given the world to enjoy and

justifies physical pleasures. The other claims that these worldly joys are

short and passing and to get the everlasting joy you have to forgo these

worldly pleasures.

Mr. Osho appears to echo the second school of thought.

He says so in his MUTE FLUTE.

"When all music stop….

When all desire stoop…

……………………….

My awry mind……..Thy grace I brace"

RED BUD is another lovely poem where the poet does

not speak about the beauty of a sparrow or a redbud. Even in the steps

Of a sparrow he sees Lord's presence alone.

"…Steps of soft sparrow;

Strew thy pious path;

Sparkles red bud's faith;

Speaks sacred Lord's presence….."

I wish to end this review with the poem GIVEN BY GOD.

I think nothing else will be more fitting than to end a review of

Devotion pouring collection of mystic melodies. I hope the readers will

Agree.

"God gave our birth,

God gave our mirth;

God make us worth;

…………………...

God with ye I end,

God with ye I blend."
