Sarah Brighton was a free spirit. No doubt a pampered rich brat caught up in the latest rebellion — the one that pitted woman against man. What had she called it? The woman’s suffrage movement? Hell’s bells, he was the one suffering.
He heard her get up and by the rustle of clothing, knew she was getting dressed. Hating himself for what he had done, he turned toward her just before she put her hand on the knob. “Sarah, I’m sorry.”
She gave him a small smile, lifting her chin as rebellious fury danced in the depths of her eyes. “You’re sorry?” she repeated. Her skeptical laughter gnawed at his heart like a rabid animal. “Whatever for? You didn’t do anything I didn’t want you to do. I’m the one who should leave. After all this is your room.”
She turned, but he caught her arm. “Are you going to be all right?” he asked with genuine concern. “I’m going to the ranch tomorrow, but I won’t go if—“
“I’m fine ... no,” she corrected, “I’m better than fine.” She pulled her elbow from his grasp and opened the door. “Don’t flatter yourself, Ira. I’m perfectly capable of getting along without the assistance of man.”

Setting: 1892 New Mexico
Independent and idealistic, Sarah Brighton is a journalist passionate about women’s rights. When she goes to New Mexico to settle her deceased cousin’s affairs, she meets her match in Marshal Ira Farrell. There to investigate the mysterious death of one of his fellow lawmen and to mourn the brother who died in a fire with Sarah’s cousin, Marshal Farrell suspects foul play. The stories they’ve been told don’t make sense. Once the pair begins to connect the dots, they discover a conspiracy that involves half the town.
Despite the danger, the two fall in love. Though she wants to be the Marshal’s woman, Sarah is determined to be an equal in her marriage. Ira respects her so much that he is willing to compromise even though such an arrangement is considered taboo in the male dominated society of the old west where those who can draw a gun the quickest always win and those who hesitate to pull the trigger suffer the consequences.
The passionate characters combined with MacQuigg’s vivid setting make this book a hard one to put down. Since she so masterfully balances the romance between Sarah and Ira with the action driven plot, MacQuigg is sure to be an author loved by both fans of historical romance and fans of westerns.

Love Romances
The Price of Pride is full of life lessons that any reader can benefit from. The characters face real life and totally believable situations. Ira bears the scars of brutality that a child should never have to face. Sarah is a woman in a man's world trying to make a difference for womankind. These characters will worm their way into the reader's heart. The storyline is fast paced and with murder abound, there is enough mystery and intrigue to keep the reader guessing and balances our the romance beautifully, giving The Price Of Pride a wonderfu multidimensional plot. This reviewer was disappointed only when the book ended. The love scenes sizzle. The sexual attraction between Ira and Sarah will take the reader's breath away.
Secondary cast of characters are beautifully written and add a touch of flavor to the tale. Ira's brothers and uncle are as delightful as any leading man could be. They are strong, rugged and loyal to their family. Even the bad guys will give the reader a smile from time to time. So don't miss out on Ms. MacQuigg's latest offer. You will not be disappointed.
