A fast paced roller coaster ride of one girls story of surviving the 1960's - 70's growing up in a violent home in Warsaw, Indiana, an inspirational story!!

Growing up in the small quiet lake town of Warsaw, Indiana, the oldest of six children back in the 1960's was anything but easy. Especially when your parents are well-known and respected in the town, but so verbally and physically abusive to their children that one by one their only means of escape is to literally run away.

However, "Living Crazy Like Fly", which was what we called our way of life, was not all completely bad. Thanks to the help of some special friends, a first love and some great teachers, Caryn learns to lead a double life between home and school and with the help of her special "guardian angels" that God provides for her she is able to both survive and not let anyone crush her spirit or her dreams even into her adult life.

Check out this 2002 Clara Award winning book and it also listed on Myshelf.com as one of the ten best book picks for 2001 by Sue Johnson. Just selected as first runner up of Best Biographies and winner of a 2002 Royal Palm Award.and now just released.....The SCREENPLAY!! Written by Lin Meadows and Caryn Suarez - soon to be the movie - "Living Crazy Like Fly"

Excerpt

Gary came over to me after our two-hour laugh fest and put his forehead against mine and in his best, most exaggerated, Mexican accent said, "You...you are crazy like fly!" We both started laughing at once. "What the heck does that mean?" I said laughingly. "It means we live the crazy life and live it like fly! By the seat of our pants! We live and survive!"

Professional Reviews
Captivating
A modern day love story from another time. The author's voice feels immediately like someone you once knew, or wish you had known. The pace is breathless and moves seamlessly from tragedy to triumph again and again, skillfully telling tales that provoke memories and dreams. It is an excellent piece of work.

Writers Digest Showcase

A truly inspirational woman
A tale reminiscent to the times are reflective and relative to all that grew up in the 1960 - 1970's era. The lessons she learned growing up, and those that she inspires for others to learn, leave much for the soul to ponder long after reading this story.

Jean Harrelson, Lincoln Nebraska

A powerful story
A roller coaster of emotions and one you will not be able to put down once you start reading. How easily we picture our friends and neighbors as "typical" and yet does anyone ever know what really goes on behind closed doors? A book I recommend to anyone who wants to read about the hidden truths in small town USA.

Deeply touching. More than that, it shakes you down to your very core.
Bless you, Caryn Suarez, for having survived what you did, and most importantly, for being such a positive, giving, and good-natured person.

I have not had the pleasure of reading this book yet, but it sounds like a book to inspire anyone growing up in an abusive situration! Just reading about the book and the excerpt made me anxious to read more.

A must read. Caryn Suarez captures the reader's attention from the start and fully carries them to the end of the book. In this book you will find hopes shattered, abuse, loss, fun times with supporting friends but more than anything you will find an indomitable fire that breathes in Caryn and exhales life. Once you get started, you can't put this book down.
It's about growing up in the Midwest during the '70s.
But it's much more than that. It's about the triumphs and
tragedies, the "what might've beens," and the "what
might yet be." Chapters are small and the writing is
fast-paced, leaving you wanting to dive right on into the
next chapter. It was one of those books that I couldn't put down after I picked it up. I can recommend it as
a good weekend read. The perfect book for that snowy/rainy
weekend when you just want to stay home and relax and relax.
