An Elastic Band
On its own an elastic is
Just a still rubber band
At a glance you may think
Of what use could this be
Holding some form of interest
But you can’t really tell
Curiosity draws your attention
Until you examine it through
To find out what is the reason
It held such interest for you
If you pull the elastic
How far will it stretch
Secured firm to your hand
Before you finally let go
To send it off on a journey
You’re not sure of just where
Would you set out to search
In the direction it sped
Or just find a brand new one
And start all over instead
If you stretch the elastic
How far could you pull
Before it finally does break
Would you know how to fix it
Put the pieces back right
It takes time even purpose
To hold as one with your hand
A strength entirely misleading
Yet one that it can withstand
When you stretch that elastic
Just how hard should you pull
As it now seems much stronger
More secure in your hand
Determination put it together
So before letting go, remember
Every so often elastic breaks
And if you choose to discard it
You miss the direction it takes
Excerpt
At some point in our lives, we may all begin to question what our purpose is while here on earth. It is believed that everything has a purpose, everyone exists for a reason, and that things happen for a reason. When we choose a direction we think we want our lives to go, things tend to go astray. When we go with the flow, allowing the direction of life to take us, the most amazing things begin to happen; thus if it is meant to happen, it will. The flow of poetry is quite like that.
