When Shirine McVey awakens on what would have been her wedding day in a strange room in Oceanside, California, she discovers that twenty years have elapsed since she went to sleep in a hotel room in El Paso, Texas. She becomes even more frightened when she learns she is married to Doctor Walter Stowe, a man she doesn't even know.Shirine stared at the man who stood before her. He was tall, thin and completely bald. His dark, bushy eyebrows and nearly colorless blue eyes seemed to look right through her. She had never seen him before. She has vivid memories of Jeff Fordham, her handsome fiancé. Where is Jeff? What has happened to him? Does he exist, or is he just a dream? She shook her head vehemently. "No. I’m not married, and most certainly not to you. I’m Shirine McVey. I am single, twenty years old, and very much in love with a beautiful man!" She sank down onto the bed and sobbed into her hands, not caring that he watched. She had reached the depth of despair from which no amount of reason could reach her. With the help of Detective Chico Martinez, Shirine begins a search for her lost love and struggles to accept the changes in her life.Shirine removed her dark glasses, leaned forward, and handed him two folders from her suede briefcase. Her intense emerald eyes flashed. "I will pay you ten thousand dollars plus expenses to find these two people as quickly as possible. I want you to tell me exactly where they have been and what they have been doing for the last two decades. I am Shirine McVey, and I am counting on you to prove that Jeff Fordham and I exist."

THE VAN WINKLE BRIDE is a sure winner.
Tess weaves a highly suspenseful story interwoven with just enough romance to sweeten the plot. The characters will stay with you long after you've set the book down.
L. C. Hayden
critically acclaimed mystery author of WHERE SECRETS LIE & WHO'S SUSAN
Ms. Tess has crafted a highly enjoyable story brimming with suspense
I couldn’t stop reading this take off of Washington Irving’s classic fairy tale to discover what exactly had happened to the heroine.
Ms. Tess does an admirable job with her heroine’s portrayal from a fragile, bitter woman to a woman strong enough to realize her dream.

As young "wanna be" authors, Charlene Tess and I would sit and discuss this theme that she has managed to put together in a great page turner.
I loved it and recommend it to anyone wanting a great book to keep them on the edge of their seats. Can't wait for her to finish her new one.
From her special friend that never had what it took to do what she has done!
