Review from Horror Fiction Review #15
THE MUTILATION OF PARIS HILTON by MP Johnson (2006 Freak Tension Press / 29 pp. / cb)
Johnson’s first effort (MP Johnson’s Cheap Ass Chapbook) was a surprisingly good little collection of bizarre and macabre tales. The author continues in that fine tradition here; Punk Rock Mummy is my favorite of the lot, a great rock’n’roll horror yarn with a cool finale. Snailwart may have a funny title, but man will this one give you the creeps; the title tale, The Mutilation of Paris Hilton, is basically a sophomoric snuff fantasy that will have teenaged readers grinning with perverse glee; but Johnson has a thing for good endings, which should make the tale appeal to all fans of twisted terror.
Keep your eye on this guy; with stories recently popping up in publications such as Cthulhu Sex Magazine and Black Petals, you can bet your arse he’ll be around for a while. - Nick Cato

The Mutilation of Paris Hilton (and other stories)

There are some aesthetic rules to the horror genre's 'punk rock' movement. Unrepentantly bloody and loud, it's usually got a kick in your face kind of DYI attitude shared by the musical movement of the same name.
With his chapbook, MP Johnson has grabbed those aesthetics by the collar and shaken out a trio of nasty punk stories that exemplify the movement's garage band attitude.
For those of you who hate celebrity as the mind numbing, culture sucking monster it is, Johnson gives to you the titular tale of a trio of Generation Z males who kidnap the queen of vapidity, Paris Hilton, and do some fairly disgusting things to her before and after death.
Male sexual fantasy, you say?
Decidedly not.
This is a rage fueled and violent screaming denial against an American culture that values its movie stars over its heroes. Actually, what the hell does Paris do anyway? If you can make it past the beheading, it all comes clear.
"Punk Rock Mummy" is steeped in the Saturday afternoon Universal and Hammer horror fests we all know and love as kids, mixed with a liberal snog of Sex Pistols and Black Flag. This band has found a way to put their mascot to good use. What waits on the other side of the Mummy's dance? Who knows? But it isn't into the circle pit.
And the last ditty, "Snailwart" does for burger joints what Peter Jackson's "Dead Alive" did for pudding. I don't think I'll be eating at McDonald's anytime soon. In fact, this has most definitely put me off of escargot as well.
Thanks, M.P. Johnson...I may never eat meat again.
THE MUTILATION OF PARIS HILTON is a quicky read, at a quicky price, and you can say you knew him before he was the famous punk rock, horror writing superstar he's sure to be one day.

The Mutilation of Paris Hilton by MP Johnson*New Review

The Mutilation of Paris Hilton is a chapbook containing three stories by author MP Johnson. The title story introduces Justin, a young man with an intense hatred of socialite Paris Hilton. With the help of his friend Chip, he kidnaps and kill s her in the most heinous of ways. It is an incredibly graphic and disturbing story. If Johnson's goal was to go for gore and shock he succeeds. What makes the story most disturbing is that it is about a real person and not a fictional construct. The second story, Punk Rock Mummy, is a fun and inventive tale about a band's use of a reanimated mummy to enhance their concerts. The third story Snailwart is about the pus from the warts that a young man gets from his pet snail and its effects on the patrons of the restaurant where he works. There is a lot of imagination evident in Snailwart and the gross-out factor is high. Johnson clearly has an original imagination and has the ability to create interesting stories. However, the title story will make it difficult for a library to add this to a collection. Contains: violence, kidnapping and extreme gore.
