Xlibris Publishers has released Barbara Kasey Smith's third book, "Whispers of Faith." A teenage girl living in a coal-mining town in West Virginia goes missing one snowy, blustery cold winters day. The story will inspire everyone who reads it. It's a heartwarming story of courage, strength, tolerance and a strong faith in God.

Smith says, "This story is a quest to make parents aware that their children are never safe regardless of the areas they live in. We, as parents, need to listen to our children's fears and teach them what to do in case their fear becomes a reality. We should never take their fears lightly because we never know where danger is lurking. This teenagers faith in God leads her out of a tortuous pit of darkness to the brightness of a new day.

Poetry, Poetry, And More Poetry

I struggle to pull the door closed as I leave the house in time to catch the seven-thirty school bus. A blast of cold air applies pressure against the door causing me to strain with all my strength to pull it shut. It's a pinching cold winter morning in our coal-mining town of West Virginia. The air is filled with burning wood and coal smoke. It has an odor I've learned to hate because it causes me to struggle to breathe. I'm usually congested all winter and I don't get any relief until the homes no longer need to be heat.

It's totally dark this morning and it will be dusk when I return this evening. I start to creep slowly down the steep steps that are always covered with a glaze of hoarfrost during the winter months. I hit the first step and start flopping all the way to the bottom step. As I'm flying bottoms down the steps, it sounds like the steps are playing a tune. I'm disgusted and wish I could run back into the house, jump into bed, and snuggle up in the warmth of my layers of blankets and forget all about going to school.

Mother's thinking she has a dead teenager lying at the bottom of the steps. Rushing out of the house, and screaming, "Emily, Emily, are you alright?

Excerpt

All of a sudden I look up and far-off down the pathway I see this black object ducking behind trees. I stop immediately, my heart starts to throb, I kicked at the earth for a few minutes and wait. I stand there for a few seconds and all at once the huge black ape comes running after me....
