A Longing takes Residence
Three days ago, I longed for a lover-- to touch my lips with a passion presently and noticeably absent-- to dance with me without reason in forbidden spaces, to lift and carry me without effort to extraordinary places; and not necessarily in that order.
Two days ago, a man, not a lover greeted me, sweeping my feet off the floor, while lifting me up to say, “hello”.
Yesterday, the man, and lover soon to be, lifted me into and onto him and danced with me horizontally in the Congaree.
Today, the man is my lover. He is still lifting, still carrying me still kissing and dancing with me; necessarily and in that order.
