Collected Poems:Maria Deyana
The traditional collection of poems that could easily bear another
titlethan the one the poet, Maria Deyana, has suggested "Poetic of Spirit
or People and Shadows". Even though, I’am fond to believe that this is the
meaningful start of her poetical perception. The poet seems pressed by
hidden masochism, ruined with pain, caught in nostalgia, so then she
cries for fear, and is near to Yesenin’s verse "There’ is nothing new
in this life about dying, but living isn’t any newer either".

For illustration, not
with the tendency to grab a verse from the poem "Above the grave", I
quote:

"I stand alone above the grave. The wind is whispering
In the shadow of the morning’s sun
He signs his song to everyone
Above naked branches turtledove cooks:
"There is life after death!"

The poem or better said poems, are in harmony with picturesque
announcement of emotions and the state of mind in general, but are also
put in the darkness, suffering and hopelessness, because they were
created in the times from golgotha of people. When people and shadows
took control over minds. When “Flash and Storm ” took awaymany
flowers, what she cries for.
In the poem "Intellect" Maria absolves these statements:

"Here next to me
I was born,
Sandy dream
Leads somewhere,
With the flash
Of a black hole,
Flowery hands
Bury me."

In the born "Here next to me", certain possessiveness is revealed, when
distancing from the WORLD is obvious, in social as well as in artistic
alienation. The world is unique, so the global village in its altruistic
bowels offers us "the beauty of living", with and without conditions.
Maria recognizes this, and consumes through unique and poetic way. On the
other hand, it’s not like that. The pain of a refugee is unstoppable,
deathly and unbearable in any country that’s far from the homeland, from
first pictures of parental landscape, cradle and first thoughts. That’s why
these verses follow:

"Spray thoughts
Among us.
I sink like a ship
In secret, never-ending
Lap of death"

The world’s leaders keep on squeezing the truth . And she’s there on
thereach of a hand. But, as Maria says, "In secret, never-ending lap of
death" human greed is fulfilled, greed of the riders of Apocalypse. Why
did I analyze pictures before? Yes, why? I didn’t make an ode, because
impressions can fool you on first reading. So,in the second time I got
the answers on my many questions.

Namely, Maria is not poor in her vocabulary, which has indisputable
and subjective touch. To the world of expressions thereader is led by
real states and everyday examples of existence. I believe that this
Maria’s collection will bring another expression of gratitude, respect in
the world of lyrics and poetic, and more foreign analysis of reviewers,
while the poets from ex-Yugoslavian lands can seriously count with
concurrency.

Living in the world, where the poet Maria is, the one where the anger
leads most of the time, and angry ones are terrified over the greed and
selfishness in their run for profit, fight stubbornly with the only
opportunity left – they preach love between people and nations, between
members of family, married ones, on the way that it is done in all written
texts that come from pure and tortured souls; from religious,
philosophical or literary kinds of texts.

This poetic mosaic does not open easily, because of its authentic code,
that makes resonance with the ones that have the right resonances in
them. But, once when it’s opened, when the key for enter to its spaces is
found, then it becomes clear that in darkness, that’s around or in us, she
shines like one of lighthouses.

This poetry book by Maria Deyana "Poetic of Spirit or People and
Shadows" I warmly recommend to publisher.

In front of poetry book written by Maria Deyana
Maria Deyana’s poetry could be divided in few steps, above all in poems
that talk about rural motives, where the poet knows how to be authentic
in her expression, but also that sometimes triviality of theme in verses
leads her in narration and expression that’s closer to prose, that she
masterfully makes nicer and on her typical way makes into form of poetic
of the spirit. That is shown in this example "ALWAYS WITH THE
SPRING":

"Always with the spring, when asleep white flowers wake up
I dream my dreams
To enchant my lonely soul
While the gently petals touch my cheeks "

We also have satiric motives in her poems, what is drawn through all her
poetry and in some moments shines in pure glow of the real satiric, with
some irony and even sarcasm…. That can be seen in "FOREIGN COUNTRY":

"Oh, the land of peace
My land, brave and proud
In the foreigner’s
In silence
Eye for eye
Tooth for tooth
And head on the edge
Brother gives to brother
A rope around the neck
Who will to whom
If not each to each own!"

Besides the poems with urban themes, there are ones that talk about
constant, radical themes of love and intimacy. The poet uses profound
sensibility and pronouns possibilities of this kind of lyrics. In poems with,
conditionally said humanistic engagement, cosmopolitan by being and
reflex by pointing, sometimes pathetic, but very honest and explored,
she reaches the highlands in this book.Typical example is the poem

"STOP IMPERIAL’S GALLEONS":

Everywhere around me cells and slaves
Stop Imperial’s galleons! The last thorn is playing.
Everywhere around me dead children and graves,
While I moan: Peace, peace, peace...

We can’t avoid nostalgia in her poems, what predominates in all
collection. Far from homeland, dissatisfied in everything she left
behind ,she still unconsciously justifies her disappointment, she
magnificently describes her loved ones, mother, father, brother, daughter and homeland.

Many would say that this is maybe post-YU nostalgia, or
something like that, but I would prefer calling it by the title of her poem:
"TOWER OF CARDS”", that describes the best what the poet wanted to
say:

"I took your smells and everything yours,
Lowlands and solid-gold corn-fields,
Ashes from the fireplace and my undreamed dreams,
My broken tower of cards"

This poetic collection introduces us to something most valuable what
Maria Deyana offers from her bouquet of verses, carefully guarded ancherished. Like a great verse adorer she reminds on a passionate
moonwalker that on the highlight of day and night stubbornly searches
for light and warmness not just for himself, or his nation – but for all the
people and nations of the world. In that search through narrow paths in
foreign, but also in reality of nowadays – hers and ours common every
day, happens that emotions grow too big, that rhythm maximizes, so the
verse stumbles; but more important than this artistic (un)perfection is
emphasized humanistic engagement from the poem "THE MOMENT OF
DEATH":

"Everything is finished.
The night shines warm, the same
Lights shine in the distance
Just the Chris¸t's warm hand
Smoothers my forehead in silence."

In the end, I didn’t have to write all this; each character, each word, each
verse, all poems in this script we can call by only one name: LOVE, what
suggests us the poet Maria Deyana and her soul’s poetic for stamp under
name "POETIC OF SPIRIT OR PEOPLE AND SHADOWS".

More important is that this poetry is translated to English, what makes the
joy even better, as I think.
