Persevering Through Obstacles
Jonathan Richardson takes us on a stormy ride through the mind of the African American male. Many timely topics are covered in The Complicated Life of The African American Man. Mr. Richardson shines light on the innermost feelings of the African American man such as how he sometimes does not have a good self-image, due to many years of living through the obstacle course of racism. If a man does not feel sure of his position in life would he not find it hard to guide his sons through the same situations? The author also cover topics such as affirmative action, education, child-rearing, inter-racial dating, and, most of all, the relationships between the Black man and woman.

I found the information in this book very useful and it would be nice if I could get every African American man to read this book, it might help him to realize that there are others experiencing the same issues. The writer did not use hate to cover the issues that are covered in this book, he used love, kindness, and understanding to deliver his message. I also liked the fact that he reached out to the African American woman for understanding of our men's dilemma, and he realizes that she is going through similar things. I enjoyed reading this book as it gave me a new perspective on the relationship between the African American man and woman.

The RAWSISTAZ Reviewers
If you ever looked at the opposite sex and wondered what makes them tick, THE COMPLICATED LIFE OF THE AFRICAN-AMERICAN MAN, (What's on his mind) may have a few answers. Jonathan Richardson has endeavored to capture honest and sincere thoughts, emotions and motivations of African-American men. He hopes to adequately address many experiences that ultimately shape their lives. And to allow European-Americans opportunities to better understand African-American men.

There are nine chapters which cover the gamut of lifelong events. From 'Snapshots of an African-American Childhood', 'Affirmative Action', 'Racial Profiling', and 'The Black Athlete', to 'Black Beauty', and an intimate chapter on 'Our Love', Richardson states a good case. He realizes in this world of stereotypes and misconceptions, it is an effort to equate the sum total of an individual's character by the real events that complete his life. But he hopes America, exposed through the eyes of the African-American man, will get a more educated understanding and that people will really listen and learn.

THE COMPLICATED LIFE OF THE AFRICAN-AMERICAN MAN is not just a novel, but it does tell a story; not just a commentary, even though there are several opinions. The collective efforts fuel this book and evoke a warmer, more empathetic look at one of the most misunderstood and misrepresented groups of people in America.
