Then his past catches up with him in the sinister form of Brady Keyes, looking for a pilot to fly a very special and highly illegal mission. When Brady reminds George of what really happened that night on Highway 89, it’s soon clear his return is not just about catching up on old times.
Manipulated and exploited, George piles betrayal upon betrayal in order to reclaim his life, only to discover that to win it all, he must be willing to risk everything.
Student radical activist, George Ashton, never dreamed he’d someday be a corporate pilot with a beautiful wife and solid middleclass existence, but then he never dreamed he’d someday be involved in a plot to abduct a Federal Judge either.
Trying to raise money for a radical organization, a young college student gets involved in a highway robbery that goes terribly wrong. Twenty-five years of hiding from authorities and rebuilding his life miraculously leads George to Julia, the love of his life, and an exciting job flying a twin-engine King Air for a large mid-western electronics company. But it was too good to be true.
The shadowy Brady Keyes, George’s past mentor and partner-in-crime, resurfaces and bursts George’s and Julia’s bubble. Brady coerces George into kidnapping a respected Federal judge by threatening Julia. Now George must risk everything to save Julia and try to regain their life by rescuing the judge he helped take hostage.
Northern Cross is an action/thriller that features exciting flying sequences, the breathtaking wilderness scenery of Michigan and Canada, but most of all, the heroic struggle of a man and a women trying to overcome deception, danger and overwhelming odds to hold on to their life and their love.
Fast paced ,airplane kidnap adventure, dead stick landings on dark runways. WOW!
read this book when it was first published. I just re read my copy and was thrilled I had kept it because this author knew how to construct a good story. Imagine the mild mannered pilot lead character's past coming back to bite and control him in such a way as to turn him in to a hero while using his powerful
twin engine airplane in incredibly unsafe conditions only to falter enough to have to to share the hero's spotlight with his own wife who at first he has helped to get put smack in harms way. What I particularly like was Mr. Hudson very sparing use of gratuitous violence and vulgar language. Very Refreshing reread. K D Hart
What goes around, comes around...,
In this suspense novel by Chris Hudson, George Ashton learns the hard way that there are consequences for everything we do. In his college days, George was careless about choosing his friends, especially Brady Keyes, a criminal in the making, who persuades George and his other friends to commit an art heist that rapidly goes south, leaving a blood-stained highway in its wake, forcing George and his comrades to flee the scene and go into hiding. George makes a new life for himself, finds the girl of his dreams, and becomes a successful commercial pilot. All is well until Brady Keyes tracks him down and blackmails George into flying a dangerous, illegal mission that threatens to destroy his new life. George refuses to cooperate, but Keyes finds the chink in George's armor... his lovely wife... forcing George to commit one crime after another. Painted into a corner, George decides to take the moral high ground and get back his life, even if he must die in the process.
Hudson's spell-binding suspense thriller takes the reader into the world of commercial aviation, and into the twisted mind of Brady Keyes, a charismatic sociopath who has no qualms about destroying an old friend to achieve his own sick goals. Hudson deftly explores the classic themes of love, loyalty, betrayal, and redemption. A well-written adventure tale that keeps you turning the pages to find out if George has the integrity and the courage to atone for his sins and put his own life on the line in order to make things right.
Northern Cross is one helluva good yarn, told expertly. Hudson's first novel has "blockbuster feature film" written all over it. Read the book, and hopefully see the movie somewhere down the line, if this masterfully-told thriller comes to the attention of the powers that be in Tinsel Town.
A great read!! very entertaining.
