DOUBLE TROUBLE, evolves around the murder of Tonia Stowell in Los Angeles. Nancy Gilbert, Tonia’s sister, hires Tom Casey, a private investigator, better known as Hawkman, to investigate the murder. She fears her ex-husband, Drew Harland, released from prison early, has killed her sister and is now searching for her.

Detective Groiler of the LAPD in Los Angeles, is in charge of the Stowell murder case and helps Hawkman uncover many clues. When Nancy discovers a key to an extra safe deposit box in her sister’s possessions, Hawkman is able to open the box and finds the missing Bible which hold the answers to the murder.

DOUBLE TROUBLE, the second in the extremely popular ‘Hawkman Series’, is an absolute must for my fans.

This time, Hawkman and his beautiful, sexy wife Jennifer go head to head with a resourceful and dangerous killer.

Can they discover his identity before he strikes again? The key just might be hidden in a missing family Bible.

Fast paced and exciting, it will hold you riveted to your monitor and leaves you blissfully exhausted at the end.
Excerpt
Tonia put her cigarette on the lip of the crystal ashtray and stepped into the kitchen. She mixed herself a stiff Jack Daniels and water, then carried it back into the living room. Sitting down, she flipped the ash from her cigarette. "How much did you get?"

"Close to a hundred grand."

A slight smile curled the edges of her mouth as she took a sip from the glass. "Where is it?"

He flopped down on an overstuffed chair opposite her and leaned forward, resting his elbows on his thighs. "In a safe-deposit box."

"So what the hell do you want me to do?"

He dug into his pocket, pulling out a gold-toned piece of metal. "I gotta get out of the state, but I'll give you a cut if you'll keep this key until the heat dies down."

Tonia crushed out her cigarette and stood. Untying her robe, she sauntered toward him, the silk material flowing open, revealing firm breasts and curved hips. He stood, his eyes wide as she took the key from his hand and slowly wrapped her arms around his neck. "Sugar, I'll keep this in a nice, safe place for you. Anything else you need?"

Tonia marched over to the glass topped coffee table and picked up a pack of cigarettes. She sat down on the brocade velour couch and crossed her legs, revealing a shapely tanned thigh through the slit of her silk robe. After lighting her cigarette, she leaned back on the couch and blew a circle of smoke into the air. "What kind of trouble?"

Drew ran a nervous hand through his crop of blond hair. "Bad. Coty and I robbed The First National Bank on the edge of town and he killed the security guard."

She narrowed her jade eyes. "You fools!"

He ducked his head. "Yeah, I know. And to top it off, we noticed a damn video camera perched on the eaves, probably got the whole thing on tape. It'll only be a matter of time before the cops find us."

This is the second of her extremely popular Hawkman Series, and Mrs. LaPierre proves again that she knows how to write a suspense novel that rivets you to your monitor.

This time the Hawkman and his beautiful wife Jennifer find themselves up to their eyes in murder, political intrigue, excons, the Feds and enough edge of your seat close calls to make it this one of the best Hawkman books yet.

If you like suspense laced with just the right amount of mystery and romance,

you’re going to love this book. I highly recommend this novel.

Double Trouble
Welcome back, Hawkman! In DOUBLE TROUBLE, the second book of her Hawkman series, Betty Sullivan LaPierre has written a taut, complex mystery that is even better than its predecessor, THE ENEMY STALKS.

In DOUBLE TROUBLE, the action is split between Los Angeles and beautiful Copco Lake five years after the explosive events of THE ENEMY STALKS. Now happily living with his wife Jennifer and their 15-year-old son Sam, Hawkman is a hard working private investigator. He is hired by Nancy Gilbert to protect her from her ex-husband Drew Harland, who has just been released from prison. Nancy is convinced that Drew murdered her sister Tonia, and that she will be his next victim. She asks Hawkman to protect her and her family as well as investigate Tonia's murder in Los Angeles. As he gets to know Nancy and her politically ambitious husband, Jack, Hawkman begins to suspect that nothing is what it appears to be in this case. There are secrets piled upon secrets: the more he finds out, the more complicated and confusing things become. Why is Drew really looking for Nancy? Why is Jack so angry with Nancy? Is it more than a coincidence that Tonia's murder and Drew's release from prison happened at the same time? Who is Tonia - really? Is she the one at the center of this maze? And what about Drew's twin brother David? Hawkman must follow all of these threads in order to find the truth - a truth that no one was ever meant to know. At one point, Hawkman says, "We could be in for a heap of double trouble." That doesn't even begin to describe this case. There are layers of deceit and secrets: it seems that everyone involved had something to hide. There were points in this book that I couldn't figure out how on earth everything was going to be resolved. But it is! LaPierre skillfully weaves all of the plots and sub-plots together into a rich, satisfying story that is perfectly believable.

Once again, LaPierre has filled her book with colorful and interesting characters. Even those who play a minor part are fresh and real. No stereotypes here! The relationship between Hawkman and Jennifer has grown and strengthened over the five years between the two cases. Their love and devotion to each other and to Sam is obvious to the reader. I loved seeing the changes in both characters. Hawkman is content and happy in his new life, and Jennifer is confident in her career and her life with her husband.

I really like this book and this series! Betty LaPierre has written two wonderful stories full of winning characters and interesting, complex plots. I'm looking forward to Hawkman's next adventure.

Double Trouble is the 2nd book of a series by Betty Sullivan LaPierre. The author's first book, The Enemy Stalks, was so exciting and fast paced, I was reluctant to think the sequel could measure up. Well, put those thoughts aside and enjoy! The author's amazing ability to make the characters live on the page creates intricate drama of murder, betrayal, love, greed and hate. The pace moves quickly with suspenseful twists and turns. I found myself rushing to the end to see how all the pieces and characters would fall into place. This book offers exciting entertainment and "double trouble" putting it down once you begin.

Title: Double Trouble

Hawkman, Tom Casey, now owns a Private Investigation business. He is married to Jennifer and has adopted a son Sam. Hawkman’s PI Agency is off to a fine beginning, cases are beginning to come in, things are going good.

Nancy Gilbert is terrified that she is going to be the next victim of the person who killed her sister. She is certain her former husband Drew Harland is Tonia’s murderer, of course she comes to Hawkman for help in finding the killer. Convicted of bank robbery almost a decade ago, Harland has just gotten out of jail on ‘good behavior’ and is now out looking for Nancy.

It is not long before Hawkman begins to uncover a whole lot more to the story than Nancy realized. Following Drew’s death, Nancy’s attorney husband Jack convinces her that Hawkman is no longer needed; despite Nancy’s dismissal Hawkman continues his investigation and begins to uncover some very interesting facts concerning both Tonia and Nancy’s husband Jack.

Writer LaPierre has produced an appealing treatise filled with good writing, entertaining characters and creditable situation. She skillfully hooks the reader with her opening line and holds interest right on through to the end of the narrative. Evocative of the drama found in Christine Spindler’s Faces of Fear along with the rich characterizations present in Paula Boyd’s Hot Enough To Kill, LaPierre’s Double Trouble is a gripping read. Betty throws a red herring or two into the mix just to keep the reader on their toes.
