Excerpt
The winter was about gone and they were looking forward to the lovely
spring days, spring flowers, and sunshine. The time was drawing near for
Clara to go home. She and Maggie had a wonderful time together and it was
hard for them to part. The day came and they hugged and cried tears of joy
for such a close relationship mixed with sorrow that they were parting.
Maggie thought she lived such a different life from other girls her age. It
seemed in one sense she had grown up but was still a child. Her association
with Brent and his friends, especially Frank his business partner, had made
such a difference in her. He was more attentive if possible after Clara left as
he knew that she was lonely for her.
The early spring came and the flower garden was a spot of beauty. Her
mother was as usual attending to them.
“Mother, the garden is so beautiful. The flowers just love all the attention
you give them,” Maggie said as she sat watching her mother fawn over every
flower.
“Yes, dear, they are beautiful. They love to be spoken to and told how
beautiful they are,” she said giving Maggie a big smile.
