It’s easy to forget that personalities of the Bible had real lives, disappointments, joys, shortcomings or just a bad day. I wondered, why in the world would a nice Jewish boy abandon his faith, turn his back on his countrymen and work for the enemy? And the journey begins. At age six, Zacchaeus’ father informs him, “Your mother is dead.” Zacchaeus retreats to the Temple aspiring to be a rabbi. But he catches his mentor with a harlot. His faith is destroyed. His dreams are smashed. He joins his father in the tax-collecting business to amass his fortune. When his father dies, Zacchaeus inherits the worst of tax routes. A blind man, a woman with an issue of blood, a demoniac and a widow about to bury her only son. They don’t have his tax money and beg off for thirty days. Zacchaeus is in trouble. His collections are due. He returns to his route, but now Yeshua has passed by. Zac is amazed. They have his taxes and their lives are changed—forever.

| Your writing places the reader into the spirit of the character, in this case the tax collector, Zacchaeus. His struggle with fate versus his dream places him on a path of little return, albeit a treasury of golden wealth. What becomes of us when we sell our souls to our profession. Through miraculous twists of a different kind of fate - he becomes Forver Changed. Once again, great job Mac. |
