Homer, an emerald-eyed little 'copter is "born" in the factory, and given to the wise Elsa to raise. But the mischievous Homer disobeys his mother by zigging and zagging in every direction. Elsa enrolls him in flight school, where instructor Hank teaches Homer the correct way to fly. Homer earns his wings, and becomes a touring helicopter at the Grand Canyon, taking children on rollicking, cliff-hanging rides! Homer's nemesis, Baldazar, the eagle, viciously attacks the 'copter. Homer is jealous of Baldazar's skills, and takes his controls away from Hank, following the eagle into the canyon's bottom. Homer and Hank suffer a horrifying crash in the raging river! Instructor Jennie ultimately meets the wrecked 'copter and has him repaired. Under Jennie's tutelage Homer matures, graduating into an Air Ambulance Chopper. - Danger, pitfalls, excitement, thrills, and heartfelt love abound throughout this delightful chapter book for 5-10 ages.

Readers' Comments: "A great story with excellent details about aviation. A story for all "kids," little kids and big kids, with very good illustrations. "-
Beverly Cameron, Flight Instructor and Engr.

"Your book about Homer Helicopter is exciting because it describes how thrilling it is to control a little plane. (helicopter). Young people need to learn that there is so much more to flying than getting from here to there. I will be honored to have my name used with "Helicopter Homer." Happy flying.
JERRI MOCK - first woman to fly solor around the world, 1964.

"Hope that people love the story. I sure did!"

Professional Reviews

Judy Morgan, Brighton Local Color Mag
NOV. 2007:
Local author Julie Buscher has written a delightful children's book that will please children and adults alike.
Children ages 5-10 will delight in this tale of "Homer the Helicopter" as he emerges from the factory--shiny and eager for adventure. His mother, the wise, golden-colored Elsa realizes he is brave from the start and eager to "be on his own."

Elsa enrolls Homer in the Whirly-Bird Aviation School, where he meets Hank and learns to fly safely and with accuracy.
Homer finds himself flying tourists in the Grand Canyon, a place where he can practice his best flying. It is in the canyon where he meets Baldazar, the eagle, who later becomes his friend. They spend hours flying challenging maneuvers and Homer's penchant for taking risks brings him trouble more than once. Homer eventually becomes a medevac copter using his skills to help Nurse Jenny save lives in and near the canyon. Homer receives awards for his heroics and skill.

After many adventures, he decides a change is in order and convinces Baldazar to join him in flying north to Alaska, which will surely be next in the adventures of Homer and his faithful friend.
Colorful illustrations by C.M. Rogers bring a warm persona to Homer and his friends.

Homer the Helicopter will be an enjoyable read-aloud book and has been recommended as an aid in helping young children expand their vocabulary and their understanding of the English language. I also would recommend it as an excellent example of descriptive language for young writers. Classroom teachers will find it a good resource for "lifting sentences" to show examples of enteraining and descriptive writing.

Children will enjoy having Homer on their bookshelves and parents will appreciate its contribution to the child's language development.
