C.L.A.S.S. Self-Defense

This secondary physical education curriculum for Middle School and High School students is specifically designed for teenagers 14-18 years old concerning situations faced by this age group in today's society.

ARE THEY SAFE? : C.L.A.S.S. Self-Defense Curriculum for Grades 7-12, (ISBN-13: 9780976827337) is now available through the CLASS Publications and C.L.A.S.S. Self-Defense web site (, for teachers to incorporate into their current physical education curriculum.

Today's teenagers are faced with so many threatening situations and challenges, but do not know how to handle them in a positive way. The new teen C.L.A.S.S. Self-Defense Curriculum gives our teenagers the necessary tools to recognize danger before it happens. With proactive techniques that teaches Internet Safety, how to handle peer pressure, shakedowns, and sexual harassment, safety awareness of possible predators, and actual step-by step- physical techniques to defend against and escape any attacker, this complete self-defense program empowers our teenagers to make quick and positive decisions.

Following the same format as the original C.L.A.S.S. Self-Defense program for elementary schools, middle and high school teachers can now offer a unique teen safety program for their students, empowering teenagers to be more aware of internet and street predators and to defend themselves with verbal and physical self-defense survival skills when faced with any threatening situation.

Topics include: Peer Pressure, Shakedowns, Harassment, Approached by Strangers, Being Followed, Road Rage, Internet Safety, Cyber Bullying and step-by-step Physical Techniques appropriate for this age group.

The step-by-step lesson plans guide the teacher through each lesson, and includes discussion questions, student involvement, problem solving and role-playing.

Each lesson will give the student a new outlook for being proactive, safe, and defending themselves, by viewing, discussing, analyzing and practicing the various skills and techniques taught during each lesson.

Teach your students self-confidence through conflict resolution, verbal and physical self-defense approaches, and easy to follow lesson formats. Empower your students with the skills and techniques necessary to defend themselves from attackers.

This curriculum complies with the NASPE physical education standards and the Physical Education Model Content Standards for California Public Schools.
This program contains information for teachers to educate middle and high school students in conflict resolution and survival in today’s world. While all children have the right to defend themselves in any threatening situation, most lack the ability and the knowledge to do so effectively. There is no way to ensure a risk-free environment, but there is a way to empower children of all ages to be confident to fight back and flee to safety. As teachers who are properly trained to administer the skills and techniques necessary to teach this program effectively, this resource-teaching manual is designed to give you the easiest possible approach. This is a well-planned self-defense program for teenagers, which is sequential, developmental and age-appropriate. It focuses on the importance of all aspects of health (physical, mental and social), which leads to a comprehensive view of physical education. Emphasis is placed in developing a healthier body, mind and spirit, together with the students' role in contributing to the health of society in general.
