She wanted to look away but that would be giving in. “And I you.” “It’s unwise to compare us.” He almost had her against the wall between the room of claymores and battle-axes. “But if I were to humor you, what do you mean by that?” Ah, she had gained ground. “Just that my appreciation for the male species is obviously equivalent to yours for the female.” One corner of his lip pulled up and his eyes flickered over her face until they landed on her lips. “You could only be referring to Emma.” Caitlin willed the fire from her face even as it flooded in. She was as transparent as a newly cleaned window. “I’m referring to the fact that I have as much right to entertain a man as you do a woman.” His hands fell to the wall on either side of her head and Caitlin’s breath switched pace. What was he doing? She could duck beneath his arm and escape but would again give him the upper hand. His leaned so close she could make out the little flecks of silver caught in his eyes. “Our situations are very different,” he whispered. His luscious mouth was within inches of hers and the nearness of his heat began melting the muscles so crucial to holding her legs up. She suddenly rethought things. It’d be best to move away from him. Caitlin sprung into action and dipped to move under his arm. Too late, the skin on their arms touched. That was all it took.

If you like romance AND time travel you will love this book! I loved it and am anxious to read more by this author. The story is well written and moves right along at a fast pace. The setting alternates between New Hampshire 2007 and Scotland nearly 200 years earlier. There appears to be a mysterious connection between the past and the present that has affected several generations of Caitlin Seavey’s family. When true love calls it can reach through time and join both parties in each time period with some interesting results. Caitlin and her brother Shane are transported to an earlier time and bring back with them a missing piece of history. The plot twists and turns. You are involved as you try to piece together the magic and match the family histories and the characters. All of this keeps you constantly paying attention. I like having a story that fascinates you and makes you keep up with it and this one definitely does.

Of course Caitlin and her Mac’Lomain chieftain Ferchar are hot ticket items. The sexual tension snaps and vibrates through the entire story. Caitlin manipulates her 21st century womanhood in such a way that at one time she has three Scottish chieftains after her! I loved the language, I loved the men, I loved the descriptions of a Scotland that I have never seen. You can see the physical land clearly. As the story unfolds it carries with it not only Scotland’s history but a wonderfully dear description of daily lives.

And back to the two main characters: Caitlin and Ferchar. They are from different time periods and have found each other somehow. Caitlin’s character shines through all her actions. Her bravery and straight-forwardness will endear her to you. The use of her modern language will clarify for you the intent of what is meant. She embodies the spirit of modern women. Ferchar is magnificent. No other way to describe him. The man makes your heart pound. Why? Physically tall, muscular, forthright, sexy, strong…oh I could go on at great length. Did I mention I read this story twice?

The hero and heroine strike sparks from the very beginning and I was definitely rooting for The author has skillfully woven a tale that pleases on every aspect. I loved it!

Destiny's Denial is the second book in Sky Purington's The Mac'Lomain Trilogy, the first one is Fate's Monolith and the third one coming soon is Sylvan's Mist. So far I have loved this series and I am anxiously awaiting the third tale.

Magic, dreams and rogue Highland Scots combine to make these stories much more than just time travel. With wizards and prophesies and two families seemingly forever bound Ms. Purington has woven quite an intricate trilogy.

Caitlin has been dreaming this same dream for three years. It always plays out the same way until the night it doesn’t. Suddenly she is in the arms of a glorious Scot, he can't be real, its just a dream, isn't it? Finally she gathers the strength to tell her grandmother who gives her an ancient book. What she reads there is unbelievable or is it?

Chieftain Ferchar Mac'Lomain doesn’t want "his destiny" he doesn't even want to be laird but yet he is and his destiny will come for him no matter what he wants. What he doesn't count on is falling for the feisty Caitlin and willingly change his life for her. Ferchar and Caitlin make a dynamic couple and when they get together the heat is palpable. But most of all I loved the inner strength that Caitlin, she handles things that would break most women and she pulls it off. Ferchar of course is sexy, gruff and tries to push her away but then he pulls her into his arms every opportunity he has -- can you say mixed messages?

There is so much packed into Destiny's Denial the story is gripping. I couldn't put it down until I finished the last page but don't take my word for it, you really need to read these books. If you have the slightest interest in time travel, Scotland or magic you will be pulled into this story hook, line and sinker.

Caitlin Seavey has a recurring nightmare. It’s been going on for about three years, but she hasn’t told anyone about it. The intensity of the dream leads her to believe she’s seeing actual events through the eyes of the man in the dream. Afraid people will think she’s crazy, she doesn’t tell anyone. Then, it becomes more than a dream, she’s visited by a Scotsman during the day and accosted by him in plain sight of others. Nobody realizes anything is amiss. Distraught, she confides in her grandmother who shares with her a 200-year-old book called Fate’s Monolith. It has a fanciful story about a distant relative’s travel to Scotland. She knows it isn’t real, it’s only a fairy tale—or is it.

Chieftain Ferchar Mac’Lomain has found what he was looking for in Caitlin. He knows he should have left her in the 21st Century, but she is needed to fulfill the vision from the gods of old. Ferchar feels that his life is not his to live; he is tossed about by the whims of the old gods. He knows Caitlin might be the undoing of his heart, but he cannot allow that to happen. He must do as the gods have shown…even if he loses himself along the way.

At first, I would have likened Caitlin and Ferchar to oil and water. However, that’s not quite an accurate description. Oil and water never quite mix. Perhaps they are more of a freezing rain and hail. Very similar, both from the same source, but subtle differences can be found. From outward appearances, both seem to be cold people unable to get close to another person. But when they get close to each other, they melt and it does get steamy. There are so many external forces trying to push them apart, I despaired their ever getting together.

Ms. Purington writes a compelling novel. It was easy to accept the time travel and her descriptions of Scotland were excellent. I was surprised by several twists in the plot that I didn’t see coming. My heart broke as Caitlin realized that her love was not to be. With surprises down to the last chapter, I was never sure how it would end. As a second story in a trilogy, I found the book able to stand on it’s own.
