In Divas of the New Millennium, readers get an insider's view of some of today's brightest stars! The background information on Alicia Keys mentions her childhood years in "Hell's Kitchen" an area in New York. A biracial child, Alicia is encouraged to embrace her Italian, as well as, her African American heritage. A very focused individual, Alicia finishes high school at sixteen and receives a scholarship from Columbia University.

Ashanti is born to Kincaid and Tina Douglas on October 13, 1980. Her mother enrolls the hyperactive Ashanti in dance classes at an early age. During her childhood, Ashanti also enjoys running track, modeling and singing. She is awarded a role in 1989's "Polly," and later works at the Black Spectrum Theater.

Beyonce' Knowles burst onto the national scene as part of Destiny's Child (Beyonce', Michelle Williams and Kelly Rowland), but the group has performed previously with the Girl's Tyme group.
