Jack woke to darkness. He felt groggy, as though the sleep he'd just woken from had not been natural. He frowned. His head ached and he felt weak and shaky. He could see light edging through the heavy curtains. It had been night time when he brought Casey back to the apartment. Jack started at the thought of his partner. Fuck, Case was hurt. Jack moved to sit up and fell back on the bed with a grunt. His hands were tied to the headboard, separately, so there was no chance of him being able to work the knots undone.
"Fuck," he muttered. He pulled at the ropes, but they were securely tied. Of course they were. His partner had tied them. His partner, who knew all the tricks Jack had taught him about how to get out of ropes. His partner, Casey, who had bitten him in the neck last night and drunk his blood. Jack groaned.
"It's no use struggling, Jack." Casey's voice, silky and low and chillingly calm. "You won't get loose."
"Case?" Jack turned his head, looking for his partner in the dark room. "Casey, why'd you tie me up?" He focused on a shadow near the darkest corner of the room, somehow knowing it was Casey. "I won't hurt you, you know that."
"Hurt me?" Casey laughed. "You'd kill me." He stirred a little, shifting position, but didn't come any closer. "That's what you do. You're a hunter, and I'm the enemy."
"I can get you out of this, Case," Jack reasoned, "if you'll let me." Jack sighed, twisting his hands against the ropes. "I'll just have to convince you to let me, huh?"
"That would mean letting you loose," Casey noted.
"Yeah, you think?"
"And if I do that, you'll bolt the first chance you get, and return with backup." Casey sighed softly.
"No," Jack said. "I wouldn't do that."
"We both know you're not strong enough to take me down on your own."
Jack swallowed hard. "I won't kill you. I want to get you out of this. Casey? Case?" He shuddered as Casey licked his lips and Jack could see the elongated incisor fangs.
"I can smell you," Casey breathed out. "I can smell your blood." He took a step closer to the bed.
