Guiding Stars is a historical love story-- a fiction with the sound of biographic reality-- built on the Hungarian revolution. The story plays out in 1956 Hungary, Australia and Canada.

In the early nineteen-forties the Second World War was raging in full force on Soviet soil. When the Soviet army turned the German military force around, it was a matter of time before they reached and fought on Hungarian soil. The Soviets reached Budapest at Christmas time in 1945.Defeating Germany, the Soviet communist power spread over Eastern Europe, including Hungary. The country was soon paralized by the choking terror that was called the Stalin era. In desperation the terror squeezed the Hungarian people into revolution in 1956. Guiding us through the dark years of Communism, what life was like behind the iron curtain, GUIDING STARS was built on this crucial period of history. Julius Ling illustrates the 1956 Hungarian revolution in vivid and unforgettable color-- brining to the forefront the heroic struggle; sharing with us the few days of unforgettable but bittersweet victory. Then, as a brutal les son, people learn the shocking price to be paid for an impossible dream- - freedom. What makes it unique is that it was the first time in history that a tiny nation of ten million people was able to deafeat the Soviet World Power and force them out of the country! But this is not a book about Hungary, rather it is the story of two young lovers, torn apart by a dreadful act of Soviet oppression. Excerpt
Then, after a foreboding silence, the attack began. The sound of heavy guns rumbled in the distance, ominously advancing to the heart of the sleeping city. Its citizens did not yet know the Russians had started to retake their capital. By the time the sun rose, painting the autumn skyline with a faint pink, the rattle of machine guns and cannons were drilling the horror into their unsuspecting brains. It was as if two million people had been sleeping on a barrel of gunpowder that suddenly exploded. Then, they heard Imre Nagy's dramatic voice on the radio, repeating desperately over an over: "At dawn, the Soviet troops attacked our capital with the obvious purpose of overthrowing the new Hungarian democratic government. Our army is fighting the attack. This is my message to the Hungarian people and to the free world. God Bless our nation!" The Hungarian national anthem followed every message. So, once again, an embittered nation stood eye-to-eye against one of the world's strongest powers. The most tenacious battles took place at Kilian barracks, the Royal Castle and Csepel. The freedom fighters soon realized that this counter attack was a deadly fight. The Soviets, armed to the teeth, aimed for total annihilation. Every shot by the Hungarians was answered with heavy artillery barrages. After a few days, the freedom fighters realized that it would be suicide to resist any further. Their surrender altered the lives of millions forever, including Andrew's.

GUIDING STARS
It is rare to find a good book. If you love to read, Guiding Stars is the book for you! It will give you the ultimate pleasure you are searching for. It is a historical novel, a sensational love story. It starts in the early fifties with the Communist rein of terror which triggers the Hungarian revolution in 1956. After the Soviet counter-attack, the returning terror forced the freedomfighter hero, Andrew Dombrady to leave the country. Having no chance to say good-bye to his love, Katie, they both disappeared from the face of the earth. "I will never stop loving you," Katie said, but after the years of desperate searching Andrew began to wonder: Will they ever see each other again? This is a breathtaking saga of faith and courage that will keep you spellbound; the story is "begging" to be read. You cannot help but fall in love with this story. All this for only $24.95, and $5.00 postage. Julius Ling, 591 Delora Dr. Victoria, B.C. V9C 3S2 Canada. E-mail: juliusling@aol.com
