Power of a Clear Mind
This book is the story of an Army nurse and a soldier patient that takes place in a hospital ward during the Vietnam War. I was the nurse and Davey was the patient. But the story didn’t begin in that hospital and it didn’t end there.
Like any story, there is a background for the people in it. Who were these people before Vietnam? What quirk of fate brought two young people from disparate backgrounds together to form a relationship that seemed destined to exist? Why there? Why then? What was the lifelong significance of their meeting?
The obvious reason we met was that he was wounded and I was a nurse. He was my patient. But, I had hundreds of patients that year, so what made our meeting so special?
We believed we met because we were kindred souls. Our lives were operating on the same sphere regardless of our physical location. We were two sides of one coin. This was our single opportunity to join the coin. That we would meet was not optional—it was simply a matter of when.
Intense circumstance requires intense presence. Half of “us” was dying, so fleeting moments needed to be captured to distill what we understood about life and to crystallize the quality of life to be lived after his departure. We understood the physical plane was left to me, and we hoped it would be a long-term contract. His role would be to provide support, guidance, and comfort to me to live out our dreams in a way that made our presence on earth worthwhile.
Davey and I have been healing spirits for each other since those dark days of pain, uncertainty, and destruction. In that same spirit, I want to introduce you to the Penny and Davey we were before our world exploded. I want to share with you our individual and mutual dreams, and how Davey kept his promise to maintain the eternal bond of our connection no matter what hurdles and barriers life provided.
It is a simple gift. The gift of our spirits to yours.
