A fierce female named Aesa has conquered Leodwald's people. What's worse, his father has given him to this barbarian woman to be her husband. With the help of a strange contraption and its even stranger inventor, Leodwald travels back in time to prevent Aesa from conquering him and his people, and strives to be with his true love, Æthelburh. Unfortunately, changing the past is not as easy as it seems.
He heard a noise outside. Æthelburh’s footsteps. His heart leapt as he leapt to meet her. He threw open the door and swept her into his arms without even stopping to look at her first. He plastered her face with kisses. “I am so happy to see you again, you have no idea!” he whispered excitedly, holding her close.
“Oof!” she exhaled, forcing him to relax his grip. “We just saw one another moments ago, Leodwald! What are you doing?”
Holding her at arm’s length, he said, “That is what you would remember. You still think we just returned, that we last saw each other just before we stepped through Ish’s contrivance.”
She looked at him strangely, confused. “Of course that’s what I remember, Leodwald. What are you talking about?”
