Nick Evanoff, owner of Evanoff Horse Sanctuary, preferred peace and quiet. Then he saw Morgan trespassing on his land and knew instantly that his life was about to change. (Also available in ebook and on kindle)

Scarred and with a permanent limp, Morgan moved to a quiet cottage in rural Montana wanting tranquility, solitude, a place where she could heal from the brutality inflicted on her by her late husband.

Ex-convict, horse trainer, Nick Evanoff didn’t need anyone,
at least he never had.

Then he spotted Morgan sitting in a copse of trees, technically trespassing. One glimpse of her stopped his aggression cold. In its place lust rose; powerful, primitive, demanding. There was something else there too – need

But Morgan was determined to have nothing to do with men,
and to go nowhere near a relationship ever again.

Could Nick work the same magic with Morgan that he worked with the abused horses he rescued?
Could he teach her that it was safe to trust, that sex didn’t have to be painful or humiliating?

God she was beautiful.

Wrapped in a light-colored shawl because of the cool night she sat at the edge of his stream, knees drawn up to her chin, dangling a leafy vine in the water, completely oblivious to his presence. Thick dark hair trailed loosely down her back and Nick saw that a portion of it was trapped beneath her. Modern women just did not have hair like that, not without hundreds of dollars worth of styling help. Gut instinct told him that the gorgeous mass cascading to the ground was real. Nick could almost feel the silky-smooth texture of it trailing over his jaw and across his chest as her mouth moved down to his stomach, his abs... Shit… He shifted slightly, trying to ease the sudden heaviness in his groin. She sighed, turning her head slightly in his direction and resting her right cheek against her knees. Moonlight painted her skin so translucent it appeared lit from within. She had a fragile bone structure, sweet, very delicate features; high forehead, dark arching brows and eyes a color he couldn’t make
out… Full, sensuous lips had him clenching his jaw against a groan of intense longing.

She shivered and wrapped her shawl more tightly around her, but her small shoulders continued to tremble. Nick frowned; the thought of her being cold bothered him, although why he should care was beyond him. After all, she was trespassing on his land, invading his private domain.

And he didn’t give a shit.

Morgan is a survivor. Scarred and with a permanent limp courtesy of her deceased (thank God) husband, she’s moved to Montana to rebuild her life in the quiet tranquility of the mountains. Her neighbor, Nick Evanoff, a horse trainer and owner of an abused horse refuge, has lived his life quietly and in solitude. Being an ex-convict who has served his time for murder, he’s wary of other people and their change of attitude when they discover his past.

On a late night ride in his woods, he sees Morgan sitting by a stream in the moonlight. She’s trespassing, but he doesn’t care. One look at her and he was instantly enthralled. He feels things he thought he never would; lust, need, possessiveness, and a maybe something more.

Determined to have nothing to do with men, Morgan is resistant, if not downright terrified, of Nick’s attentions. But Nick has patience on his side, and he uses it to build Morgan’s trust in herself and him, and together they come to realize that a relationship can be more than hurtful and humiliating. It can be loving and rewarding. And the physical expression of that love, which Morgan was taught to fear and dread, becomes something she soon craves and needs, but only with Nick.

Night Angel is ruly an exceptional read. The torment and fear that Morgan feels is made frighteningly real. The same can be said for Nick. Reeves made me feel as if I had really met the two, and I was rooting for them both. Both are viewed with mixed levels of pity and fear by the general public, who better to understand the others feelings? Nick was phenomenal in his handling of Morgan, but I didn’t feel he was treating her like one of his wounded horses. Morgan was strong, and took some major risks, and was richly rewarded for doing so. Night Angel is a book you will definitely not regret reading. Oh, and the evolving relationship, while taken slow and easy, was hot!

Morgan Fletcher’s move from Chicago to rural Montana is an attempt on her part to begin anew. After the death of her husband, all she wants is a place to heal where no one will hurt her or judge her. She’s no stranger to pain: the six years she spent being abused by her husband gave her more than enough to last a lifetime as well as a scarred face and a permanent limp. Now she’s an hour and a half from the closest city, and she plans to paint and to have as little to do with other people as she possibly can. Especially men. Men, she has found, are mean and violent and like nothing better than to hurt.

Nick Evanoff is a horse trainer who runs a sanctuary for unwanted and abused horses. He, too, feels the pressure of other people’s judgment. Although he was released from prison ten years ago, he will always bear the stigma of being an ex-con. When he first sees Morgan, he thinks she is the most beautiful creature he has ever seen. But she is as skittish and untrusting as one of his abused horses, and he knows that if he wants to get close to her, he’ll have to take it slowly. The fear that he sees in her eyes makes him want to draw her close and protect her from the rest of the world.

One step at a time, Nick and Morgan move slowly together. She finds proof in him that not all men are violent and abusive and finds that physical intimacy does not have to be accompanied by pain. Nick wants nothing more than to become a permanent part of Morgan’s life, but there is one giant obstacle in the way. His time in prison was served because he killed a man, and nothing can erase that from his past. Will this woman who has suffered so much violence still love him when she finds out the truth about his past?

Night Angel by Renee Reeves is a story about a woman who has suffered in the past and must learn to trust again. This novel is well-written and emotional, and while the emotion occasionally may flirt closely with being melodramatic, it is appropriate to the story being told. The author’s writing style and smooth narrative drew me into this story very quickly, and her characters held my attention for the duration of the novel.

One interesting aspect of Night Angel is the fact that the antagonist is dead. Morgan’s deceased husband is about as rotten a villain as one could imagine, and the descriptions of the violence that he inflicted on Morgan are absolutely horrifying. Even after death, he holds a tight rein on her, because her perception of the world and is now colored by the abuse she suffered at his hands. She can hardly make a move without being overwhelmed by unpleasant memories.

The two main characters are drawn in such a way as to make them very sympathetic. Nick has a hard and tough exterior that contrasts completely with the nurturing individual he is within. Due to the mistake he made in his past, he doesn’t feel as if he is worthy of being loved, although he has plainly redeemed himself over the past ten years. Morgan is basically afraid of her own shadow, but she is making an effort to overcome her fears, and that shows a strength that she doesn’t realize that she has. When she and Nick finally progress to physical intimacy, the scenes are not only extremely sensual, but they pack an emotional whallop that is not always present in sex scenes. I thought they were very well done.

In all Night Angel is a well-written and enjoyable novel. Because it deals with the subject of domestic abuse, it might not appeal to some folks, but I personally found it to be more than worth my reading time.

NightAngel Review by Brandy W..

I had the opportunity recently to read and review Night Angel by Renee Reeves. The blurb I was given made me curious. How would I feel about a heroine that was scarred and hurt? What about a hero that was an ex-convict? What was the story behind these two troubled souls?

Well I found the answers to my questions and was pleasantly pleased with them.

I felt both bad and proud of the heroine Morgan. She had suffered at the hands of her ex-husband and working on making a better stronger self. I felt that in the book she was given the time needed to begin to heal and overcome her terrible past.

The hero Nick was a man who lived with abuse when he was younger and came out stronger in the end. He appealed to the part of me that loves a wounded hero. He was strong and responsible as well of loving and caring toward his younger brother, the ranch and the wounded animals he tended and trained. We learn what he went to jail for early on but not the circumstances behind it. That didn't come to light until much later. It didn't bother me that we didn't know what had happened since I trusted that the author would take us on a great journey and give us a very good reason.

I enjoyed Night Angel very much. It was well written giving wonderful descriptions of the land, the running of the ranch and the emotions that rolled through the characters. I believed that Morgan and Nick would be able to come together with an understanding of each and a love that would build to make a wonderful future.
