Excerpt

As with other anthologies in this series, I have taken the opportunity to include a few of my own poems, as well as compositions by my associate judge, Professor Dee C. Konrad. The aim is not so much to promote our own work but to give intending contestants an idea of our tastes and convictions. Entitled, "My Search", here is a short piece, heavily influenced by Spanish poetry, such as "Adagio" by Leopoldo Lugones.

I thought I saw a smile up in the sky,
teardrops formed by the wooded wind
and tulips drooping spasmed heads to cry
on labors spurned yet lost. A sly cygnet sinned
against pale doves outlined on a sylvan-tipped roll
of nascent, nimble cloud. On his ivory, iridescent perch,
a macaw mumbled grace, arching his feathers in doll-
like plumes of catatonic harmony. Perdita, I search
the sky for you, my dear, hunting forests of cloudy lace
for a scent, a sigh, a sign, a spate, a wholesome place
where rain and sky mingle in that soul-sweet embrace
that forms the love, the radiance, the lost gloss, the base
of your once-impassioned, purified Perdita face.

Reader Reviews for "Across the Long Bridge; An Anthology of Award-Winning Poetry: Hardcover"

Reviewed by Raymond Walker 5/4/2011
I cannot review the anthology as i have not yet read it, however, i would just like to say that the short poem you have included is lovely. Much symbolism but i think that i get most of it and just loved the imagery as well as the dreamyness. Thank you for sharing it.
