The Angry Thunderstorm rolls into a child's world in the middle of the night awakening her with a fright. Witnessing his tyrannical display, the child trembles with fear. The thunderstorm acknowledges that he sounds ill-tempered because it takes such a powerful display to do all the things he must. He is never welcomed and his intent is always misunderstood. The wind. The thunder. The flashes of light. All of these seem scary. He reassures the child that he uses these displays for very good reasons thus beginning a journey of understanding that takes the storm from foe to friend.
Excerpt
Late one night in early May
while the air was still and warm,
as I lay in my bed there crept
an angry thunderstorm.
I heard him from a distance.
His rumbling I could not ignore.
Then all at once, I saw a flash
and heard a great big, nasty
RRROOOAAARRR!

While parents will have fun sharing The Angry Thunderstorm to calm youngsters' fears of booming thunderstorms, teachers will find the book an excellent resource for building vocabulary. While gaining information about weather, children will also gain appreciation for the role of the particular thunderstorm in this charming story. The illustrations clearly reflect the changing emotions of both the yound child and the thunderstorm. Keesee's use of rhythm and rhyme make The Angry Thunderstorm delightful!

As the thunderstorm explains the real value of his rumblings and thunderous roar, rest assured your loved ones will never view a thunderstorm in the same way.

My two children, ages 5 and 6, loved this book! They begged for repeated readings. When we turned to page 3 again, Ally was making a big, nasty RRROOOAARRR!!! Emily liked the way the flash of light warned the bunny of the danger of the huge hole directly ahead. Keesee effectively shows thunderstorms are natural and help us and our earth.

| The Angry Thunderstorm is a book that will lead a child towards understanding a part of nature. A great way to dispell fears about thunderstorms. Writing in the poem format is especially suited for this book. A novel idea for a childrens book. I hope this author continues with this idea and produces more books about nature's happenings. |
