Excerpt
Once he was born, he was rushed over to the other side of the room to be worked on. He wasn't crying. I was terrified that there was something wrong with him. I could hear him grunting and he finally tried to start crying. I was told that he wasn't breathing well on his own and that they were going to have to take him to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. My husband came over to the side of my bed and was so happy that Jamie was here. He had always wanted a son. He said, “This just proves that you are the best thing I have ever done”. I didn’t know that what was yet to come would affect that.
They brought Jamie over to me to hold and for the family to see for just a brief minute before they took him away. I was sad to see him go. I had no idea what was to come. I had no idea how this child was going to change my life or how I would have to fight to save his.
