A historical romance novel depicting life near Atlanta, Georgia before, during and after the Civil War into the beginning of the twentieth century. This story, covering four generations of strong women pulling together to survive the hardships they had to endure, probes deeply into the multiple meanings of devotion and committment as they face their fears and yearnings and transcend their difficulties through love.

Whispering Oaks, a historical romance novel, is set against the dramatic changing landscape in and around Atlanta, a small town destined for greatness. This novel is a kaleidoscope of the feelings we most cherish and fear as seen through the prism of the continuing lives of Mary Rodgers, her daughter Nancy, her granddaughter Mary Beulah and her greatgranddaughter Elizabeth. When Mary Rodgers traveled with her husband and family to Georgia from South Carolina in the 1800's, they journeyed by boat and covered wagon, eventually arriving near the small village of Marthasville, later named Atlanta, where they built their home, Whispering oaks. A decade away from the external explosion of emotions spawned by the slavery question, progress around Atlanta was rooted in the railroads. Even though it was not plantation country and had very few slaves, ironically Atlanta eventually became a target for destruction because of the railroad.

This epic story is rich with emotion and filled with appealing, intense and resolute women who were determined to preserve the spirit of the South under adverse challenges.

Bringing ancestors to life - Author writes a historical novel based on her family tree.

Atlanta native Christie Seiler Boeke wrote a historical novel based loosely on stories her mother related to her. The end result is a historical romance titled "Whispering Oaks", which begins with Mary Rodgers, traveling with her family to Georgia from South Carolina in the 1800's. The family eventually settles in Marthasville- the name at the time for the city that later becomes Atlanta - where the Rodgers family builds their home, Whispering Oaks. After the war, the family goes through hard times and they even lose their precious home, Whispering Oaks. The story later shifts to Nancy's niece, Mary Beulah, who endures a betrayal that tears her and her lover apart. She later marries a cruel man, who treats her and her children terribly, but when she finds the courage to leave him, she discovers out of grief can come love. The final part of the story follows Elizabeth, one of Mary Beulah's daughter around the turn of the century.
This is a facinating story with many ironic twists and turns.
