How to use a spouse, relative, friend, or colleague as your agent to arrange health care and financial affairs for you, and how to represent you in legal dispute, when you are incapacitated, dead, or otherwise unable to act on your own.

This book enables you to understand what power of attorney is and how to grant it to a spouse, relative, friend, or colleague who will handle your health care, financial affairs, and legal problems when you are unable to do so yourself.

Excerpt
To someone who is unfamiliar with the term “power of attorney” (POA), it might seem that it refers only to the authority that a lawyer has to provide representation in legal or in quasi-legal affairs or, to put it another way, the power that a lawyer has to act on behalf of a person or entity in matters governed by law. Though it includes that meaning, the term more commonly refers to designation of a lay person to act as one’s legal agent in many ways, including the making of arrangements for health care or medical care; and in most cases that person is a spouse, relative, friend, or colleague.
