Ozarks History

This book covers the Civil War along the southern portion of the Kansas-Missouri border.

The lower Kansas-Missouri border is defined as that portion of the common border south of the Bates-Cass county line in Missouri and south of the Linn-Miami county line in Kansas. The book includes eleven chapters detailing various episodes of the war, like Quantrill's battle and massacre at Baxter Springs, Kansas, and chronicling the lives of certain personalities associated with the Civil War, such as Missouri State  Guard colonel John T. Coffee, within the designated area.
