Professional Reviews

—James A. Cox, MIDWEST BOOK REVIEW, Oregon, Wisconsin, December 2000
“For anyone wanting to recapture the nostalgia and 'family friendliness' of the Christmas season, Wilhelminia Ripple’s Christmas Parties…What Do I Do?® is a terrific place to start! This attractively presented compendium offers more than 125 creative ideas for games, crafts, and holiday snacks that will make every Christmas gathering fun and memorable. The themes offered for consideration include 'Christmas Trees, Stockings, and Candy Canes'; 'Snow, Snowmen, and Snowflakes'; 'Santa Claus and His Elves'; 'Rudolph and His Reindeer'; 'I Believe in Angels'; and 'Christmas Here, There, and Everywhere.' Thirty-six easy craft projects are clearly laid out with step-by-step illustrations. Christmas Parties is enhanced with 40 simple and delicious recipes for holiday treats and drinks, 36 'Santa-approved' games, and more. There are even suggestions for celebrating the end of the Christmas season with 'New Year’s Tips and Fun Party Ideas' from here at home and around the world. Christmas Parties is a thoroughly 'user-friendly' instructional reference that will be appreciated by one and all, year after year, Christmas after Christmas.”

—Judy Berger, THE ADVOCATE, Baton Rouge, Louisiana, December 2000
"If you're planning a Christmas party, especially one for children, this might be a good investment. Ripple pretty much covers it all, from themes to games, to crafts and favors, to Christmas goodies and a few extras in the 'potpourri' chapter. The directions to all the projects and the punches are clear and understandable, and helpful symbols along with the directions assist even more. Watch out for the footprints; this sign indicates things could get rather messy. But don't miss out on making Christmas crackers; they are marked as a family favorite, attributed to Great Britain. Other countries' holiday traditions also are included, such as a Rutabaga Candle from Ireland and a Christmas seal from Denmark. Moving on to the goodies, the edible snowman sounds scrumptious. How could you go wrong with marshmallows, graham crackers, and chocolate chips in the ingredients? A recipe for King Cake (from France) uses a dried bean in place of the plastic baby. The drinks go from a shivery snowball shake to Mexican Hot Chocolate. Packed with usable information, this book may just make your next party a winner. And if it's a real success, there are New Year's tips at the back of the book for your next party."

—Susan Bouse, "Make Holiday Party Magic for Your Kids," CRIB NOTES MAGAZINE, Kalamazoo, Michigan, November/December 2000
“We all want to create special holiday memories for our children—especially since it's only a matter of time before they stop 'believing.' But when it comes to Christmas parties for your children, does your 'Ho! Ho! Ho!' sound more like 'Bah, Humbug?' Don't lose the spirit of the season. Remember: Even Scrooge eventually realized the error of his ways! When it comes to throwing Christmas parties, party planner and author Wilhelminia Ripple insists, 'No more fussing, no more headaches. It couldn't be easier.' This may sound too much like Santa magic, but don't lose your childlike will to believe just yet. With a little elf-like innovation and planning, you can create a party that captures all the magic of the season without adding to your holiday stress. Ripple's award-winning What Do I Do?® series has been helping parents and teachers throw unique and memorable parties for years. Her latest title, Christmas Parties...What Do I Do?® is loaded with advice, recipes, and activities for Christmas parties that sparkle.”
