She finally gets a home with two young boys and blows it. After another trip to the pound and more mishaps - some caused by her - she finally arrives at her forever home where she quickly rises to being the leader of her pack.

"Hi..by now you probably know I like to talk, and I like to tease Mandy the Alpha dog in our pack, but I'm fixing to take over that spot -- ha, ha, ha. Grandpa calls me the spotted wonder. Anyway, I just wanted to let you know that Mandy's told me that story every time she's had a nightmare. It's good to let someone talk so that can get rid of their fears. I don't know how much is true about Mandy biting, 'cause I never saw her bite, but the way she tells it, she was a terror when she was young. Maybe she was or maybe she wasn't. She likes to think she was, anyway. I also wanted to let you know we'll be having another tale to tell real soon. It's called The Midnight Caper. As you probably figured, I will be a star in that one too.
Grandma said I could tell you since I'm still talking to you. Some of the money from the proceeds of this book will be going to keep more of us critters alive and finding good homes for them.
