True Love Comes Along Once in a Lifetime….
That’s what Detective Holly Lawson James believed. Her husband and co-worker Edmond was everything a woman could want in a man and a partner; strong, warm and romantic, he filled her life and her heart with passion and joy -until a police sting went terribly wrong and abruptly took him from her and their little girl, Abby. On that day her life changed forever. Now five years later Holly has grown accustomed to being alone, a state that suits her perfectly well, because she’s sure that true love comes along only once in a lifetime…
Despite promising his wife otherwise, Tyler Green knew he would never find love again. He had watched powerlessly as cancer ravaged his beautiful Felicia. Day by day, moment by moment, the illness, like a thief, dragged her closer toward death and tore away big chunks of his heart. When it was finally over he was left empty and cold, but it doesn’t matter to Tyler because he’s sure that true love will never head his way again…
Still, love has a way of getting through to the stoniest of hearts and all it takes is one mischievous little girl and an unlikely meddling angel to prove them both wrong. But there is danger lurking in the shadows of their new beginning and one person’s obsession may well cause Holly to lose the most important thing in her life…her daughter!
Excerpt
When Holly opened the door, she felt as if time shifted. She looked up at the man standing in front of her. Her heart raced and her palms became wet. For the first time in her life she was actually at a loss for
words and the only thought that came to mind was Wow. “Mrs. James?”
She blinked, uh? Oh yeah, that’s me. “Yes.”
“My name is Tyler Green. I just moved into the Stinebeck house next door.” Holly stood staring at him. “I’m sorry to disturb you, is this a bad time?” Holly shook her head. “I wanted to stop by and introduce myself.” Holly nodded. He paused. “And, well I’ve already met your daughter.” Daughter? Holly thought to herself. Oh yeah. “At the local schools we have fire safety week. Yesterday Abby said that they had theirs and also mentioned that you didn’t have working smoke detectors or an escape plan.”
Holly frowned finally realizing what he had said. “What?”
“I’m here to—”
“No, there has been some misunderstanding.”
“Abby mentioned that you didn’t have a fire escape plan. She said that they had a drill in school and that you were unable to attend and were unable to implement a plan here at home.”
Holly felt her left eye twitch, little girl you are so going to get it. “Mr?”
“Tyler, Tyler Green.”
“I’m sorry, Mr. Green, there has been a terrible misunderstanding.”
Tyler glanced over Holly’s shoulder. “Good evening, Abigail.”
Abby smiled shyly, nibbling the index finger of her right hand. Holly looked over her shoulder, seeing Abby, Dee and Terry standing behind her. Dee and Terry were grinning, while Abby looked sheepishly at her mother.
“Oh, yeah, good job, kid,” Terry said in a heavy breath. Dee elbowed Terry, still grinning at Holly.
Holly rolled her eyes at the trio and turned back to the door.
