Reader Reviews for "From Nam With Love"

Reviewed by Louise Voss 12/3/2009
From ’Nam With Love

While volumes of various perspectives are in print regarding the Vietnam experience, Lloyd King’s From ’Nam With Love is as beautifully unique and captivating as the title suggests. My emotions were immediately stirred as I wondered at first how one can possibly link Vietnam with love. The answer lies within the heart of a soldier who loves not only his family and his country, but also the people he strives to liberate.

Lloyd’s poetry and artistic inks take one not only into the living hell of the battlefield, but more importantly right into the soldier’s heart, where one cannot help but experience every emotion as if one were standing at his side, feeling the very same courage in spite of gripping fear, camaraderie, loneliness, sometimes joy, sometimes hopelessness. To read his poetic journal is to experience his grief and sorrow for the senselessness of lost brothers-at-arms as well as for the innocence destroyed in our young infantrymen and in the Vietnam families and children unfortunate enough to be living in war’s horrific path. We are brought face-to-face with emotions stored away as long ago as the film clips of the war itself.

The poignant truth we must all come to understand is that every single combat veteran has given up his life…some through death on the battlefield, and others through the changes brought into the remainder of their lives from the physical injuries, the traumatic memories and emotional pain that never depart even upon arriving home. If nothing else, let From ’Nam With Love teach us that we owe the American veteran our love, our honor, and undying gratitude for the sacrifices made to preserve our freedom....

"From ’Nam With Love transports us across the ocean, spanning space and time."
"No doubt a precious treasure, it has aged like costly wines."
"Written in the 60’s, the hellfire of the times,"
"Now brought out of the darkened cellar to enlighten all our minds."
