Jessica Kehinde Ngo, a Nigerian-American twin, takes a personal and introspective look at twinship. This hybrid between autobiography and sociological study gives a fresh, cross-cultural view of twinship. It is a realistic and charming portrait of family and American life.

Second Twin, First Twin

Second Twin, First Twin depicts twinship in a way it has never been explored before: through the eyes of an awkward, Nigerian-American girl who is not only trying to figure out what it means to be a twin, but also attempting to understand her role as a first generation American.

The book uses the aid of twin mythology from Nigeria and other countries around the globe to investigate the uniqueness of twin bonds and the significance of being a Nigerian twin growing up in the United States.

Second Twin mimics the format of Sandra Cisneros’ The House on Mango Street. Like Cisneros’s well-known novel, it is a quick read, offering short, yet intense chapters that can easily stand alone as short stories.

Though a memoir, Second Twin is held together by a strong narrative voice and reads more like a novel than a typical autobiographical work. It combines elements of humor, myth, and narrative that will hold reader interest. It is also narrated by a self-conscious, indecisive, introverted girl who, by the end of the book, has blossomed into womanhood.

Second Twin is a product of Sabellapress and is currently available on Amazon and at
