Lightening flashing above us shifts my attention upward. Dark clouds form thick, turbid masses hanging so low in the sky that I can almost reach up and pushed them aside to reveal the sun. The hellish masses roll slowly but steadily in our direction. In the distance, a second bolt of lightening furiously strikes the ground, threatening to split this frail earth in two.
The three of us contemplate the sky for several moments, standing side by side with our heads tilted upward. A shiver pricks my neck, despite the warm temperature, and spreads through my shoulder blades down to my fingertips. The air is redolent with the stench of nescience, and I breathe it in deeply as I do every other day.
