The third story, “The Legend of Thunder”, introduces a new feline who is legendary and feral and a protector of all animals in the park. The Great Ghost tells a tale to all of the kittens regarding conflicts in the park with many other animals and how Thunder came to all of their rescues as one of the “Protectors of the Glen”. Just who are the “Protectors of the Glen?” Why are they so mysterious?
“Many years ago,” the Great Ghost said, “All of the Cat Havens were having a problem with their fellow animal creatures in these great parks we call home. Whether it was snakes, monkeys, lemurs or panthers, they could not seem to live together peacefully. There was theft, foolishness and occasional violence. Dens and nests were looted and destroyed. Fights broke out over the smallest matters.”
“There was constant conflict,” continued the Ghost. “It seemed that the leaders of each group were unable to settle their differences and chaos ensued. I kept warning them that if they could not establish a plan of peace, they would then face the wrath of the Protectors of the Glen. No one believed that such a clan existed. They had heard only rumors of giant, feral cats assisting those in need. The enormous, feral cats always kept to themselves until beckoned. Because the Protectors of the Glen rarely ventured out, not one soul believed of their existence.”
